  1. Hello,  I have a NX1P2 controller that would control a DC motor, currently it's open loop. I can control the speed and the direction. I'd like to add an encoder to it. The motor I have is from MidWest motion S27 series and they told me I can use their encoder but the problem is it output TTL My question is, how do I read this encoder output in the PLC since it's TTL?  Second, is there a high speed counter in Sysmac Studio for the PLC I have?  Thank you everyone in advance
  2. Hello, I need to Synchronize two 4kW motors connected to their own individual AltiVar VSDs. To put it simply the two motors are pulling cables on a pulley and when loaded the motor's slip and the speed varies. I have an Omron CP1L-EM PLC and 2x Omron Rotary Encoders ( E6C2-CWZ5B encoders - 360 PPR) - connected to each motor,   What is the best way to read the pulses from the two rotary encoders then convert to RPM? 1) Using  PRV or PRV2(883) instruction,  - this would be the best option as it would convert the value to RPM - however, can I use this instruction on both Counter 0 & Counter 1? 2) Or read the raw value from  Counter 0:  A270 (connected to motor one's encoder) Counter 1: A272 (connected to motor two's encoder) Convert the pulses to RPM - then compare and adjust? 3) Or using CTBL. - is this a useful instruction for this application?   Once I get the RPM speed from each motor - I can then do a compare instruction - see if there is a mismatch and if so send a scaled analogue output to the VSDs to correct the speed if required. (10-50Hz) What would be your recommendations? any help would be most helpful. Thank you.
  3. I am trying to connect a Delta ASDA-A2 Servo internal motor encoder to a Delta DVP28SV high speed counter input.  I was successful in connecting the servo to the plc on position mode with an external encoder connected to PLC high speed counter.  Currently having trouble in finding the correct wiring between the servo drive and the plc to count the pulses from the internal motor encoder.  Attached are some figures from the servo drive manual. OA --> X0 is obvious, tried s/s to GND, COM-, VCC and VDD... no result. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

  9. Hello, I need to make an ethernet communication Siemens S7-300 <> Omron G9SP. The HW of the Siemens that i us are CPU 315 2DP and CP 343-1 Lean. I did try to follow the Omron manuals Z922 and Z924, but faced with some problems. First of all in Z924 there is no complete HW configuration of Siemens (communication configuration is missing). Also, formats of messages differ in both manuals. Maybe there is an Simatic Step 7 project example, that i could open with Simatic Step 7 manager to do a deeper investigation, or maybe somebody has a lot more experience in this case? Thank you in advance.   WBR @rturas
  10. Mitsubishi Safety PLC

Hi everyone.  Is it possible use mitsubishi safety plc as logic solver for fire and gas detection system  on the plant ?
  11. Hey guys, I am working on an application that tracks irregularly spaced PET bottles on a conveyor line and then blows them into boxes waiting on the side of the conveyor. I believe I have working logic, but I am having issues with the encoder at operating conveyor speeds. I believe the best logic for my project is to use a photoeye to detect the presence of a bottle (a one-shot makes sure it is only detected once), and then "store" the "presence" of the bottle in a binary file using an encoder pulse to trigger a BSL function. Using this logic, the bits in the file are analogous to a real, physical location on the conveyor, and I can just monitor specific addresses in the file where my real-world air nozzles are located. My current problem is that as my conveyor speeds increase, the PLC begins to miss pulses from the encoder. During my initial set-up, I took data at very slow speeds to experimentally determine how many pulses were between the photoeye and each air valve, but when I run at full speed, I only detect about 70% of the pulses detected at slow speeds. Not good. Althought the "skipped pulses" seem to be proportional to the detected pulses at slow speeds. I am using an encoder that only runs at 60ppr, so I would think that my PLC (MicroLogix 1200) can handle this...I did the math before I purchased the encoder and thought I found the pulses to be infrequent enough that the PLC wouldn't miss any. My 2 trains of thought: 1) I need to use an interrupt for each encoder pulse since they occur so quickly (utilizing an EII), which I am not fluent in. I can find instructions to intitially configure the EII file, but I am unsure of how you are supposed to correctly set up the ladder logic to utilize the interrupt. 2) There is an electrical issue. The encoder I bought uses pull-up resistors. The resistor value I selected only drops the detected voltage to 14V from 24V. Is it possible that the encoder does not spend enough time in the "off" state at high speeds because of this high voltage value? OR does the usage of a resistor introduce a time-lag into the system which further complicates the issue? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!
  12. I want to use an incremental rotary encoder with my Allen Bradley PLC to move induction motor (3 Phase) in clockwise and anticlockwise direction. Please help me with the program how to use High Speed Counter Values to move motor reverse and forward.
  13. FX5 PLC loses impulses from encoder

Hello everyone!I have strange problem.I have plc, inverter (mitsubishi), incremental encoder (sick) and motor. When i set the frequency on the inverter about 1,5Hz, the plc correctly counts impulses, but every higher frequency causes the plc counts impulses incorrectly or doesnt count.  Above described things are happening at the rotation of motor in the forward direction. With a rotation of the motor to the rear, high-speed counter doesn't count the impulses. All the parameters of high-speed counters and PLC program i am sure there are right ( i'm using only instruction to start high-speed counting (HIOEN) and to enable interrupt (EI).  Input Response Time i had on "No setting" or 10micro-s and nothing.Type of encoder - A/B phase, HTL.PLC - FX5UPLC program - Gx works 3.Maybe somebody had similar problem? Maybe somebody could tell me where i need to look for the solve?   Thanks for help :)
  14. Do I need an encoder (slave) axis for my project? I am using a Powerflex755 and Incremental Rotary Encoder (scaled into linear movement axis)... Any other suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! project file https://sites.google.com/site/lyncedrgb/eva/untitledpost-2/StellaPLC.ACD
  15. Good day, We are using Guardlogix 1756-72s controllers for our ESD system. We created safety add-on instruction in RSLogix5000 v20 and wanted to test it using RSLogix Emulate 5000, however we are getting an error that safety add-on instructions are not supported in standard controllers. Is there a way to test safety code using Emualate or Softlogix?
  16. Hello All! This is my first post so please give my descriptions some lee-way please:P I am having trouble finding a solid example of ladder logic which integrates a: PowerFlex (755 in this case) Rotary Incrematal Encode ( or any encoder for that matter) A Prox to reset the resolution at specific points along the axis Also, can I use the standard Motion Instructions (MAJ,MAS,MAM etc) to control the movement sequences of the PowerFlex or are they only meant for use with Servos? I am working on automating a Lumber Treatment Process. The movements will have to move tens of thousands of pounds.. Therefore I would like to use the PowerFlex as a Torque Limiter to control a 15HP squirrel cage motor on a massive gear reduction. I have the distances and pulses per distance traveled from the mechanical engineering guys.. I'm just having problems integrating! After using the Setup Wizard for PowerFlex how can I go about actually inserting movement instructions for the drive into my ladder logic? Some more info on different movement profiles.. I've also included my attempt at trying to piece this together thus far.. Any input would be welcome! (StellaPLC) https://sites.google.com/site/lyncedrgb/eva/rslogix The actual drive and PLC are not available to be me at this time.. could this be an issue while trying to write this motion control program? 17. Encoder input CP1L PRV2

Hi, I am planning to use an encoder on a CP1L to read on the RPM of a spinning wheel. For this, I can use high-speed counter 0, and the PRV2 instruction. My problem is that I also need the rotation direction. I was wondering if anybody had a tip for this? Thanks
  18. i am working on CTL (online cutter)i am using fx3g plc with 1024 ppr encoder i want to calculate MPM(METER PER MINUTE) in real time with the encoder can some one help me with the logic and how encoder work in frequency mode
  19. Hi Everyone, I have a PowerFlex 525, in Velocity Mode with a Encoder Card "25-ENC-1". We are controlling this drive via TCP/IP with a 1769-L32. Through the PLC if I try to toggle the Bit for "Pos Redefine" in A560 [Enh Control Word] it instantly turns back to 0. But through the Parameter List Editor I am able to toggle A560. For My function I need to have the drive in Velocity Mode, If I change the drive to Position Mode I am able to toggle "Pos Redefine"   Any Thoughts would be great
  20. Writing access to Safety CPU

Hello. I tried to read/write from/to safety cpu (QS001) over MC protocol. I managed to read from cpu devices but i couldn't write to any safety cpu device. It was possible to write data to Q series plc (Q02HCPU in my example) with MC protocol. I am searching any method of writing to safety cpu (QS001). If anyone could this before? And are there any settings in GX Developer (GX works) for access to writing to QSCPU? P.S: As known it's possible to read/write from/to Q series PLC with MX Component. It's also available reading from QSCPU with MX component. But cannot write to safety cpu with MX component (written in Mx component manual). Thanks.
  21. Hi, I need to use an absolute encoder to measure angle of turning object. I have to use S7-400 and a PVM14 absolute encoder. The Encoder support "PROFIBUS interface" and use "Class 1 and 2 in accordance with PNO profile 3.062". I am looking for example code, or a good manual. Any advice appreciated!
  22. DC motor with encoder

Hello, The company that I work for wanted me to design and build a FIFO loader. For those who do not know what a FIFO loader is, it's basically a lift that runs up and down and filling up the magazine slots with pcb's. After I finish the mechanical part i'll try to program it by using a CPM2C - 20. I have already played with CX-programmer and learned my self a bit, for example how to program simple things such as AND and OR gates for controlling motors and lights. Really hard part for me was figuring out how to create a program that reads data from the encoder and use it to create positions which the motor will stop at, and i have not yet figured it out. I've been trying to google it without any luck, the only thing of real info i've got is a 650 page long pdf file or CX-Programmer manual which is hard for me to read since i'm new to all of this. Would be great if any of you people got any source or maybe a manual which are easy to understand for new beginner like myself. A bit about the program i would like to make: The FIFO loader will have some buttons for selecting different programs, lets say you press first button to select "program 1". Then the machine should move up and stop at posision "50" (there are 50 slots on PCB magazine) after it gets signal from pneumatic actuator (which will be used to shove pcb inside the slot) its should move to position "49" and so on.. If FIFO loader is located at "home" position and you press second button to choose "program 2", then it will move to slot "49", wait until it gets loaded, and continue to slot "47" and so on.. The meaning of this is to make a loader which can select a program to fit pcb's with different size of components.
  23. Siemens S7-1500 and SICK

Hello all, Let me start by saying that although I have been working with PLCs for 20+ years I am very (as in brand) new to the Siemens world (my wheelhouse is AB). That being said I have a Siemens S7-1500 (1511 specifically) CPU with a couple of SICK multi-turn Profi-Net encoders (AFM60A-S4NB018x12) that I need to talk to. - I am using TIA v13 with all of the updates. - I have the GSD file from SICK for the encoder. - I have no clue what I am doing - I can see the encoder values update in the watch table as I move the encoder. All fine and dandy so far... Here's where the white flag is going up.... - I am of the belief that there are existing function blocks out there 'somewhere' that can read and write to the base parameters. I have contacted our local rep who deferred me to SICK. I have emailed and left messages with them and have not gotten a return anything thus far. Here's our application... We are attaching each encoder to its own rotary gear mechanism. The rotary will need to turn in the CW direction approximately 400 degrees then return to its start point by rotating in the CCW direction by the same amount. If/When production/maintenance needs to 'rehome' the assembly, the expectation is that they 'pin' the drive in a known location then a bit would be set within the CPU that would assign a specific value to the encoder's actual position. In the SICK manual (8015078/YIX6/2015-01-16) on page 31 (section 3.6.3) there is reference to Preset control. This is what I believe we need to perform the aforementioned function. Does anyone have any examples that they could share on how to read/write to these encoders by use of a Function Block or other? Relatively desperate for help at this point. Can post test code if need be. Thank you in advance, TLAF
  24. I'll set the scene a little before I explain the issue that I am having. I have an application where I have a Linear Servo Slide acting as a Press Kick-off cylinder on a ceramic press. In order to trigger this Slide accurately, I have installed an Absolute Rotary Encoder (a Turck product) to the press, which outputs an Analog signal for its specific position. I then have this as an input into my CompactLogix L33ERM through a 1769-IF4 Analog Input card. Within my code, I'm trying to capture the moment where the press has presented the part out of the die and it can be ejected from the press cavity without damage the part. Mis-timing on this ejection and the part will clip the die pad tooling and incur damage upon ejection. Now, one last point of clarification, I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade, so I don't claim to be an expert programmer. But I have learned a lot and have gained experience in programming applications like this, so I can learn quick and should be able to program this task. I have had my local Allen Bradley guy look at the code I'm using for this application, and he thinks it looks good, but I'm still having issues. What I have done, is within the code, I have a window that I look for, of the encoder's position, to trigger the ejection shoe to fire its sequence and kick the part off. However, I have had to make this window so large in order for the code to see it every press cycle, that occasionally, the ejection shoe will be fired at the back end of the window, which is actually too late, and my part is being damaged. Attached is a snapshot of the code. The OkSamplePress.DN is actually a timer that I have that looks at the current press rate and puts a delay in to not allow the kick-off to fire too early, because I was actually getting a glitch before where the kick-off would fire prematurely for some reason. I don't know if anyone can offer assistance on this or not, but I would greatly appreciate any help at all. Its become quite frustrating, as the rest of my machine functions quite well, and this seems to be the nagging issue I can't get rid of. Thanks in advance...Josh
  25. Several years ago before I arrived at my company, an integrator came in to do the automation on our system. They used a Controllogix 1756-L61S for the safety portion of the project. Apparently, when they completed the job they did not provide the source code with comments, safety password, etc. for anything and it got ugly between our company and theirs. In other words, they would not provide it if we went back to ask them. Allen Bradley has told us that we can not make any alterations now to the safety logic because we do not have the password that was used to create it. And they said there is no longer a master password that you could use like in previous controllers. Does anybody know of any workarounds for this? Or have heard of anything that might possibly work?
