  1. Hi everyone, Now the crisis has put myself out of job in short period of time I'm thinking of going Self-employed in Industrial Automation. The salary I could make while being employed would be around £35-50k in UK (even though I had limited experience on Mits and Siemens) which is quite a good salary in UK in this sector, depending on the job as well. I'm more of a hand on guy and I like working on site while prototyping in the lab, and I believe if I was a self-employed Industrial Automation Engineer I would thrive better for a few reason: - Limited schedules means I push myself to 100% of my abilities to help me develop and grow - Hands on, commissioning and prototyping - Higher risk and higher reward as prices are for projects not hours - After few years a possible income of around £70-120k - Possibility of developing my own solutions/programs/scripts/devices for customers in automated facility - Using python for Data science/analytics which is currently my hobby - Automated online diagnostics and maintenance improvments   I've never had a chance to cover all of the above previously and I believe there would be a huge demand for a person who can provide and prove a benefit to the businesses of all of the above subjects. I'm a great problem solver, regardless if it's an electrical or software issue however when I'm hired I don't feel the satisfaction from finishing job and I would rather move on the next project rather than stay still for a long period of time.   Are you guys self-employed/contractors? How did you start?   Thanks, Tom

  6. Greetings I have an HMI in the form of an industrial PC, is ok to use an SC09 programming cable (8 pin DIN mini to USB type) as a permanent means of communicating between the FX3U PLC and industrial PC's USB port?   I am avoiding going through the trouble of buying a DB9 connector type for the PC end due to budget limitation. My CPU also doesn't have an ethernet card, i don't want to buy one either. i have already tested the connection and it works, i just want to understand the drawbacks of communicating via USB instead of ethernet or traditional serial.
  7. Control Panel

Is it possible to view the values / states of all inputs, outputs and workbits (e.g. 64.00 through 64.15 on Omron CQM1 PLC) on a single screen or control panel within CX-Programmer software?  I'm trying to troubleshoot some ladder logic that I wrote and need to know the values of 5 or 6 inputs/outputs/workbits simultaneously.  Having to scroll up and down through my ladder logic repeatedly does not work well with code that changes state every 5-10 seconds or so. Any help is welcome.
  8. Control Panel Drawings

Gentlemen and Ladies,                             This post might come off as generally lazy but this is purely in the interest of saving time. Our company has been building control panels for quite some time. I have been doing the design for about 10 years or so. We typically build Allen Bradley type control panels. Our main customers are water/wastewater so they are typically Compactlogix with basic IO. (AI, AO, DI, DO) modules. Recently i've been using the IO Wiring System modules. These save an incredible amount of time. However, they are quite big and require a decent amount of space. Our smallest control panel size is usually 36x36 and that is pretty tight. My question to all is, does anyone have a set of control panel drawings for an Allen Bradley compact logix system without these wiring modules? I am looking to create a smaller control panel, and I just haven't had much time lately to sit down and do the design. This is indeed a shortcut, but time has been limited on my end as of late. I apologize if this is out of line.   Thank you,
  9. Hello good day ! I have a problem with a Panel View 1000 plus, I accidentally connected this device to 240V and the rv2 of the circuitry has burned. I am not sure what reference this device is but I need to change it as soon as possible, I would appreciate it if you could help me! Thank you
  10. Hello,I am sizing a feeder circuit for a panel according to UL 508A and came into a question:My input current is of 76.5 A (considering all the loads), thus, it is fine for me to use a cable of 4 AWG (max. 85A @ 75 c).For the circuit breaker I did 76.5 A x 1.25 = 96 A and then I selected a breaker of 100A.My question is: Is it ok for me to keep this configuration according to UL 508A? 100A breaker + 4 AWG load side cableOr do I need to level up the cables?Thank you very much in advance!
  11. There have been many good discussions on the applicability of cloud-based solutions for manufacturing and process control systems. On one side, some people have concerns regarding security and control of the information, on the other side, there are identified benefits enabled by cloud systems. From VMS minicomputers to DOS and Windows, from ArcNet to Ethernet, it is inevitable the industrial automation systems shall adopt the technologies that are getting predominant in IT general use; the current environment that I am calling the “Cloud-iPad era” is no different; therefore the practical discussion is not if those new technologies will be applied in the industrial environment, but how. This paper is not intended to join the conceptual discussion about the cloud, but just to present a few simple practical examples, where cloud technologies are already enhancing industrial automation solutions and enabling new business opportunities. 12. B&R Power Panel 100 calibration

Good day! Please tell me the options for calibrating the touchscreen of the B & R Power Panel 100 4PP120.1043-31 Rev.K0 without BIOS. After the damage, the touch screen managed to calibrate. After replacing the touchscreen with a new serviceable one, it is impossible to "push" the buttons - you need to start above the button, off-screen. There is no project source. A faulty touchscreen also fails to do a calibration. Can I reset the default calibration settings? Where is the calibration table stored? Is there a way to immediately call calibration after power on? I would be very grateful for any ideas!

  15. The 1980s brought the early adoption of the PC platform in automation systems and the first large projects, using the PCs to communicate with PLCs. In the following decades, supervisory and control systems technology evolved, creating several generations of software tools and automation products. A generation means an evolutionary step and a new platform, with a total change of the programming methods, user interfaces and paradigms, going beyond than the merely incremental improvements that are made during the maintenance life cycle of products; a new generation means renewing the internal architecture. 17. Deif AGI400

Hello, Is there anyone here that use or have used the AGI400 series of HMI from Deif ? Would like some input before I buy one for testing. Price seems quite ok, and the design isn't the ugliest one either. Pros and cons please !!
  18. Industrial automation

Hello! I am doing a project for an industry to make the sensor tools wireless. I am new to PLC. is it possible to make the measuring tools with sensors wireless with PLC? does it work on a industry environment and what kind of technology is best for comminucation? wifi or bluetooth?   The existing sensors are connected with wires to a screen which says if the product is ok or not ok. I need to make this wireless. Any suggestions to make it easy?   please suggest me the boards to buy to try prototyping.
  19. Remote I/O Choices

I'm looking for some recommendations for remote I/O choices. I would like to create a standard remote I/O panel design for our product that would allow us to connect the panel to either a CompactLogix system over EthernetI/P or a Siemens system over Profinet. I'm not married to any particular manufacturer for the I/O and I don't mind having to change the part number for the communciation adpater between applications. I primarily use less than 16 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, and 4 analog inputs on any given remote I/O rack. On rare occasions we will have an analog output or two. It's for water treatment processes, so response time is not overly critical - ms response times are more than sufficient. My local vendor just sent me a cut sheet for Turck's BL20 line with the multi-protocol Ethernet interface. That looks very promising. Does anyone have any experience with this line? I've also looked at Wago, Siemens, and Phoenix. They each have their +'s and -'s from my desk, but I'd love to hear some feedback from someone who's actually put them into service. I'd also love to hear other recommendations. Industrial Panel PC Manufacture at http://www.szjawest.cn/
  20. I'm looking for a cheap solution to have a little HMI display connected to a Control Logix PLC through Ethernet.  The HMI is for a remote offloading station and there is little to display or control as the hardwired controls are already in place. The display would be mostly to indicate if the offload pumps were inhibited or not and which alarms that affected the pumps were active.  My problem is that Rockwell discontinued their mini displays or will during this year (this is for an external application) and the HMI's available that are tiny seem to be "locked" into Compactlogix or the Micro800 series.  Any advice on brands that would do such a device?
  21. We have an auto-clave unit purchased at auction roughly 4 years ago.   CompactLogix L32e and PanelView Plus 1000.  All has been working for us until last week.  Suddenly, the program seems to freeze up after around 30 seconds.  I can still touch the panelview and the touches are registered, (the mouse icon moves) but the program does not respond and I can tell the program is frozen because the clock which displays seconds stops counting. When i boot into safe mode (clicking white box on boot) the system does not seem to freeze at all.  I am able to navigate those menus w/o issue.  We don't have any of the software to connect to the PLC.  I understand this is a somewhat broad issue, but does anyone have any idease where i can start in troubleshooting this? or is their any further info i can provide which would be helpful?

  23. I got into a project were they have 20 panelviews plus 1500 around the building, and they want to be able to serrate the displays accessible by the users based on the physical location of the panelview, for example Room1 should not see room2 but can see room3, at this moment we have a complete application with all the screens that have been downloaded to all panelviews, in order to avoid maintain 20 different ME applications I would like to ask if any of you had this problem before or any ideas on how to go forward with it.   Thanks
  24. Hello, I am new to the forum. Being doing a lot of googling to see if theirs any cross-compatibility between an M241 PLC and a Simatic panel PC and stumbled across this forum which hopefully could help me out. I'm starting an automation project to automate my home brewery. The M241 from Schneider electric seems to tick the boxes for what I require.  At my work theirs a redundant Simatic Panel PC 670 just waiting to be recycled. My question is, can I use the panel pc purely as an HMI for the M241?
