PLC Scaling doesnt match Sensor Display Output
PLCarp posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello, I'm currently working with a 1769-L19ER-BB1B CompactLogix controller connected to 7 1734-IE8C analog input cards. Into these cards I have about 14 Setra 269 Differential Pressure Transducers, all of which have their own individual display. Our goal is to capture and record the data from the Setras in the PLC, but I am struggling to scale it correctly. I currently am running a series of SCL function blocks to change the raw inputs (3277 - 16383) to the Engineering range (-0.25 - 0.25). The Setras have a standard output range of 4-20 mA and the calibration sheet I have for it matches that (4 mA = -0.25, 20 mA = 0.25 etc.) My issue is the SCL function block outputs are not matching the displays that the Setras have on the sensors. The difference can be somewhat staggering (largest one ive seen is PLC - > 0.045 , Sensor - > 0.003. Any ideas on what I can try to fine tune this scaling?- 5 replies

Hi all. I have a 1769-IT6 thermocouple/mv input module. It is connected to a micrologix 1500 unit. The green okay light illuminates on power up, but after you download the program and put it in run mode the processor faults. Terminal block with the cjc's are on the unit. The error message just says the I/O module has encountered an error. The hex code under status bit 6 is 179h. This error code is not in the manual. Has anyone else encountered this? Oh and I only have channel 0 enabled for type k thermocouple. Has anyone else had this issue, or know if it is a configuration issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

How to connect to a PLC from Studio 5000 on a VMware
NewEric posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hi and thanks for youre time I am a newbie trying to connect to a 1769-L30ERMS using an Ethernet cable. I am using Studio 5000 and RSLinx Classic lite for programming and communication. However Studio 5000 and RSLinx Classic lite are installed on av virtual machine using VMware. So my problem is two fold. Connect the VM so that it reads from the real computers ethernet port Find and communicate with the PLC from the VM There are guides on how these problems are addressed seperatly. For example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdArYVceO1I and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERLTvcBBK_w however I have not been able to get them to work together. So I was wondering if you, the sages of PLC programming might have some tips or trix that I could test or perhaps even a guide for how to do? Mvh Eric- 3 replies

hello, I want to ask, maybe some of you know about this, I want to take a program on compactlogix but it has a firmware version 19.xx while the rslogix application I have is version 21.xx, there are several options offered by the application to be able to take the program, update the firmware in compactlogix or downgrade the rslogixku application to version 19.xx. if i upgrade the firmware in compactlogix, what about the program is the program safe or not, and if i upgrade the firmware will the program in compactlogix work properly?

I have 0x4c requests from my ipc to the controller, with request path: Class - 0xB2, Instance - 0x004C. And 0x4c responses from the same path, and then "Command Specific Data": example 1 (of the command specific data): 0100a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00a6409d00 example 2: 0100a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00a7409d00 example 3: 0100a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00a8409d00 Looks like it always starts with 0100, then repeating some value. In the first one the repeating value is 00a6409d, and then in the end 00. Or maybe it's 01 and then just repeating values surrounded with 00 or something similar. Is it values surrounded with 00, written using little-endian? Does the variable in request have a name?

Mapping to a Single Element in an Array
dmturner posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I have 23 Micrologix 1400s and I want to take the same register, N100:99, out of each one and put in a single array in a CompactLogix L18ER. From what I have tried, it only seems like I can only map a range of integers, N100:77-N100:100, to the array and not an individual register to a particular element. (For example, mapping N100:99 from machine 16 to Selected_Model[15]) Can you map to individual elements in an array? If so, are there any instructions on how to do so? Thank you in advance for reading my post!- 2 replies

Hi, I'm looking for help with the string exchanging between GT25 and AB CompactLogix. I'm reading recipe data from SQL via MES interface to the local devices such as GD3000. I want to move the string held in the registers GD3000-3009 (20 characters) to the string tag in the Allen Bradley. The problem is that in the scripting I cannot enter the AB Tag, because when I imported the CSV with the string tags their data type is STRING, and the scripting in GOT accepts only numerical datatypes such as WORD, etc. Has anyone found a way to handle that?

This may be more of a Zebra question than a PLC question but I will post it here. I am using Zebra's Network Connect to enable communication between a CompactLogix L13ER and a ZT410. My issue is that the QR Code omits the 5 elements of the array in Field 1 of the CompactLogix. I expect the first two elements in the array to be ignored per the manual but the first 5 has me puzzled. All the characters in the text shows up fine. I have attached what I am seeing. If you have a QR Code reader, you can scan the QR Code.

tldr: How can I release/close CIP connections to a 1769-L35E CompactLogix (rev. 17.12)? Starting having communications issues with the controller out of nowhere - no recent changes, been running for years, etc. Tag update rates on the Wonderware InTouch sessions are really slow and could not get online with the controller until the Wonderware DAS was disabled, thereby freeing up a connection. Max number of allowed CIP connections is 32, but, per Task Monitor, there are 35 active connections. How can I drop all CIP connections so that only the valid ones come back? Anyway to do it without cycling power or going from run->prog->run? There are a number of cached message blocks, a 1794-AENT FlexIO Adapter, 10 other generic ethernet devices, and the connection to the WW DAS. Thank you for your help.

HiI have just bought a new AB CompactLogix 5380 (5069-L306ER) labeled "FACTORY SEAL".When I trying to connect via USB or Ethernet on studio 5000 softwares, no matter RSlinks or BOOT-DHCP tool, there is no responding at all.I know these PLC shipped row and there must be flash before using for first time, But I think when I turned it on via MOD Power, while connected to PC, there must be some sound for connecting via USB cable, or some activity in small led's of Ethernet port in both sides. but there is no response at all.I'm begining to doubt about my cables, although the USB cable and the Ethernet cable are standard cables, I try it with two or three cables.P.S: The package does not included a SD card, I put a SD card from my own, Could it be problematic? Thanks.

Please test my DF1 protocol app for Android
Facso posted a topic in For Sale, Employment, Services or Wanted
Hi there! I've created an Android app to read/write data to Allen Bradley PLCs via serial DF1 communication (a Bluetooth serial RS-232 adapter is required). You can use it to read and write Binary (B), Integer (N), Float (F) and Long (L) data files to a MicroLogix or SLC500 PLC. The app is now an open testing release in Google Play and I really appreciate any feedback. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klYEuzdNBNg Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facsocubac.df1polling&hl=en_US&gl=US Some of the features (such as Write data to the PLC) require to upgrade to the Pro version. If you wish to upgrade, just send me an email and I will send you a promo code so you can test the full app for free. Thanks a lot for your help Facso- 1 reply

Trouble energizing my stop output with 5069 CompactLogix Studio 5000
rotilahp posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello All, I am new to Studio 5000. I am trying to have my limit sensors energize my stop output, and also have a manual bit that I can toggle that will energize the stop output as well. Currently, toggling my manual bit works for energizing the stop output, but my limit sensors turning on does not energize my stop output. Not getting what I want with or without the ONS. What is going on??? Thanks, Daniel -
CompactLogix Point I/O Module Limits
ElectronGuru posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hey guys, I did a quick search here and didn't come up with anything, so hoping I'm not asking something that has already been answered. I'm looking at automating an existing plant which currently has zero controls, so starting from scratch. The process isn't complicated but the equipment is a bit spread out over a two story facility. We're thinking about using a CompactLogix 1769-L32, physically located as central as possible, with ten four-slot 1734 Point I/O blocks. My concern is that many Allen Bradley controllers limit the number of I/O modules you can add to the project. Like some 1756 controllers are limited to 30 local and remote I/O modules, CompactLogix controllers may be limited to 16 local and who knows how many remotes, etc. I can't find anything that spells it out explicitly in the Design Considerations Manual. The CompactLogix 5370 User Manual only says it supports, "a limited number of Point I/O modules that can be used as local modules". Nothing about networked modules. The CompactLogix Selection Guide clearly defines the number of network nodes, but nothing about the number of modules. Does anyone have any direct experience with this much Point I/O in a CompactLogix environment? I'm thinking that we're in an age of counting nodes, rather than modules but don't want to order the hardware without being 100% sure.- 8 replies

Hello Im using a 1769 HSC card with a L35E and trying to get the RPM. Ive been reading through forums for a couple days trying all the ideas from people who have had similar issues but I still cant get the current.rate(x) working. Im using a single channel encoder at 60ppr. I believe the card is set up right and the channel is enabled. The counter seems to work fine but the rate stays 0 when im spinning the encoder slow but will jump to 100 or 200 if I spin it fast. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Looking for some help that i cant seem to find online - I have a CompactLogix 5370 L1 Controller part number 1769-L16ER-BB1B and would like to connect a 1769-IF4 and a 1769-OF2 Analog expansion modules. Rockwell sales tell me they are compatible The Compactlogix looks to be a "slide in" and the expansion modules are Plug Type. Is there a cable or base rack I can use? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to send an int over TCP using a MSG Socket, Compactlogix ==> Arduino Ethernet Shield I have set up TCP communication between two Arduino Uno's using Ethernet shield. I've set up the one as a server, the other as a client. server IP: 192.168.1.21 port 23. If the client is connected it reads incoming data as a byte or an array of bytes. The data between the two has been verified to work. I'm now trying to transition the communications between a compact logix-L32E. I'm looking to send a byte (or int being as there's no byte data type) from the Compactlogix to the Arduino using TCP. To my understanding I need to use a socket create, open, read/write, close. The manual to do this is vague as a step by step procedure. Does anyone have an example code for socket programming? I can open rs500, rs5000, and studio 5000 programs. If I can open a file to use as a reference I can translate it on my own. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have been working with PLCs for long time. We used to develop PLC logic, partly test it on an emulator and test the rest on the partly energised equipment. From time to time working with computer software development (C# and JavaScript) I was always looking for something similar to unit testing in the PLC world. As I couldn't find anything at that time I've started developing own automated testing tool. Now we use this tool, which basically simulates PLC inputs in defined actions and checks expected behaviour of internal tags or/and PLC outputs. If it behaved the way we expected, it's PASS, otherwise it's FAIL. We break complex logic into small parts and create unit tests for it. By creating more of these unit tests we can test PLC logic of any complexity. The software called PLC Logic Prover and it's free at https://www.controlx.io Recently, I've been told that there is no point to develop anything new if there are already great tools on the market. Honestly, I didn't do proper research earlier, so I'm here asking the experts. What do you use to test PLC logic? What automated testing tools do you use? Is it using IO simulation or it can test logic by other means? Your replies are appreciated. Thanks, Alex

Hi, got a mental block lol. Got a machine we are modifying, currently got most of the code in place. Working on a fault routine now. This machine doesn't have an HMI or wide array of PL. Nothing major just a simple vision system check. Currently have 6 faults that will stop the cycle running. I'm wanting to have the beacon light (Red light) blink for the cause of the fault. For example: Scenario 1- Fault stop for bottle check NG: (two) .5 sec blinks - 2 sec red light off - (two) .5 sec blinks ..... repeat Scenario 2- Fault stop for bottle check NG and reject sensor blocked: (two) .5 sec blinks -2 sec red light off - (three) .5 sec blinks - 2 sec red light off....... repeat I have the code a few different ways but it looks "dirty". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
