  2. EPLAN Help

I am attempting to use EPLAN P8 (v.2.9) to import details from a 'holy grail' excel sheet of a cable list with terminal tags and numbers (source and target for each cable). To do this I began importing details in a trial and error fashion through the pre-planning menu to the pre-planning navigator. I have several questions. Question (1) Has anyone else tried to do this?  In the process of importing from the excel sheet I have not been able to successfully assign source and target for each cable object. It shows up on the synchronization dialog after I work through the field assignment but it disappears after import. ( I do not fully understand the proper structures, definitions, properties and levels to get what I want). I do understand if I import source and target terminals, and cable objects separately, then I can place on the detailed view and source and target are assigned then. Question (2) Does anyone know how to assign source and target to a cable object in pre-planning 'by import'?  (Reason being that the excel file is huge and manual assigning isn't feasible). On one of my attempted field assignment schemes I was able to have cable, source terminal, and target terminal, all on different levels (not actually assigned as source and target for the cable object btw.). However the result for source and target on the report (planning overview, form: f40_006) had all of the designations of the tree structure from the upper levels. For example, cable: HAC4401, source: HAC4401 X1:5, target: HAC4401 X1:5 TB1:5. (Where X1:5 is source terminal and TB1:5 is target terminal). Question (3) Does anyone know how to create a 'branch' or 'fork' in the tree structure in the preplanning navigator so that both source and target terminals (planning objects) are on the same level and so do not inherit each others details?  There's a bunch of info in reading the above I know, but if anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance,  MajorMac
  3. Hello there,   I am using Schneider HMI for the past few years, it's very versatile and easy to design graphics.   Now i started using OMRON HMIs and found that is weird to draw graphics in Omron NB-Designer.   I have Example, Look at the attached screenshot of both software, in the case of Schneider if I stretch a button or any object it will remain in the same good shape. but in the case of Omron, if you stretch any object it doesn't remain in the original shape. (check the attached images.)   Please suggest Ideas about designing a good Omron Hmi, Sample backup is always welcome. The image link is below, I am not able to upload it here. https://we.tl/t-HV9IOnyfAP
  4. Thesis idea

Hi guys!   Actually, I am student. I need to choose a thesis topic soon. I would like to write something which is connected with automation. I wolud like to ask your help, to figuring out an idea, what can be a good topic in nowdays. It would be a master degree already. Im using AB PLC-s, so it would be convinent if someone could suggest for me what I can solve with this, enviroment (rs logix 5000, studio 5000) Im not asking a solved thing. I would like to ask some ideas or tip. If anyone have some idea, pls share it thanks.  Thanks in advance.
  5. Hello, I want to ask for a second opinion regarding sizing infeed wires and cables. Take this case for example: 5G16 incoming supply cable (400VAC 3PH+N) to a panel which goes through a MCB and then to a potential distribution block. From there on i can feed various supplies: 1 off 30A Inverter (4mm wire) 1 off 15A Motor (1.5mm wire) 1 off 24VDC PS (2.2A) (1mm wire) The wires from the potential distribution block to the MCP (inverter / motor) an MCCB ( PS)  do they all have to be the same size as the highest consumer? This case inverter so 4mm?   Thank you.
  6. Hi all. I have a Kinetix 350 and an AB TLY servo motor. I'm using the drive's STO function. AC power is supplied into the drive, passing through an "M1" contactor. It makes sense to m e to keep that contactor open, preventing AC power to the drive, until the drive is fully awake.  Is that what you guys do? Someone suggested to me in another forum ( http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showthread.php?t=121021&highlight=drive+awake ) that there is no reason not to supply power to the drive right away because the STO function is inhibiting power to the motor anyway.
  7. What Is Meaning Of Universal Analog Input Card?
  8. Hello, I have a cp1h-y20dt-d (sinking output) plc supposedly to be wired to a servo controller. The pulse control method is Pulse/Direction. I've did some manual research on the PLC and found the following diagram attached Untitled. Since the diagram above doesnt show which terminals does it connect to in the CP1H side circled red, I want to ask if those connections belong to the following diagram attached Untitled1? If so, assuming im planning to use only Pulse Output1 (Pulse/Direction method) from the PLC side, is the connection from the first diagram no.1=CCW0- , no.2=CCW1- , no.3=COM (connected to -ve) *Note: these diagrams are from omron's manual SYSMAC CP Series CP1H-X40D_-_ CP1H-XA40D_-_ CP1H-Y20DT-D CP1H CPU Unit Your replies would greatly help. Thanks and best regards, Summer
  9. I got denied on a job interview, there might have been a few things but I think not knowing NEC and lack of experience with three phase hurt me. The NEC stuff is for another thread but how do you get experience with three phase? Unless you're in a shop already 3ph can be tricky to find. We talked about it at school in multiple classes but never anything hands on. Yet the descriptions for these entry level jobs all expect you to have a few years in of working with 3ph. It looks like I can make my own three phase from 120VAC with a small VFD. Maybe find some small 3ph motor at the scrap yard, get a new contactor and practice taking measurements/hooking stuff up. I've no problem building a trainer if I get to study up on 3ph and NEC at the same time. Crazy? Any advice?
