  1. Hi Everyone,I have a customer that needs a CQM1H (CPU51) replaced. They purchased the processor new-old-stock from a source they found online. It arrived in the original packaging and had the safety label around the top of the unit, so it seems that it is as advertised and no need to suspect that it would have problems. I purchased secondhand, a power supply to attach to it and program it from the bench instead of in the machine. The customer also provided me with an SD card containing the project file(s) for the machine. I am able to load the project in CX-ONE (running on Win 7) just fine. My computer has a native serial port (COM1) and I built a programming cable to work with the DB9 peripheral port according to a diagram I found online. The processor powers up right away with the ERR/ALM continuously on. No other LEDs came on initially, and after a bit of playing around with communications settings, I finally landed the right protocol and my computer seemed to identify the processor correctly. I compiled the source and attempted a transfer to the PLC. I got some failed message (or maybe messages) at the end of the transfer. It did seem to send all of the binary code, it just ended with an error message that I unfortunately didn't write down or grab a screenshot.Anyway, what I have now is a PLC processor with the ERR/ALM LED on always, I've never seen it in RUN mode, and now after the programming attempt, I'm seeing the COMM LED strobing at about a .5sec frequency (with or without a cable attached to the peripheral port), AND I cannot get CX-Programmer to again acknowledge the processor anymore. I'd like to reset this back to the way it arrived to me, but can't figure out how to make that happen offline. The DIP switches don't seem to cause that effect. I should say also that the DIP switch settings are all OFF except 3 and 7.Any help is much appreciated! Thanks,John
  2. I have been trying with an Ethernet cable and a 1747-pic i am 100% sure there is user error need to download a program into the PanelView i have the correct software rslinx and panelbuilder32 help I'm trying to learn
  3. Crouzet Millenium 3

Recently had to get a program out of a millenium 3 plc which I had programmed a few years ago but the cable would not connect. The only difference this time ,as my laptop no longer had a rs232 port, was the use of a USB to rs232 converter. Having trawled the web I managed to find the circuit of the interface cable below. It looks like the signal from the computer uses the negative going part of the pulses which aren't present on most usb to rs232 converters. Is this correct?
  4. I have a 1747-L30B SLC Brick and it is set to load from EEPROM on boot S:5/8, Error S:1/10, and Run S:1/12. I need to make changes to the program and then store it to EEPROM via "Comms>EEPROM>Store to EEPROM."  When I attempt to store the program with changes, it displays the message "Insufficient Memory Module Size." I assumed the EEPROM memory was maxed out, but I also uploaded the existing program currently stored to EEPROM, made no changes, and attempted storing it back to EEPROM and received the same message. Any advice?

  8. op320-a communication

Hi,   I have a plc s7-200 (224xp) and a hmi op320-a, made the programs and download both, but the hmi don't connect with plc. the cable is correct like manual (op side pins 1-9 to plc pin 3, and op side pins 6-8 to plc pin 8) but the hmi just show CONNECTING... and never ends.    someone could help me, need add some configuration to plc? or another pin configuration cable?    thanks.

  10. FX-2NC-32MT Battery & Communication Cable

Hi, FX-2NC-32MT PLC need to change Battery, Can you please tell me the battery model no? Which communication cable require  for FX-2NC-32MT PLC upload or download program? Thanks & Regards Sohel Ahmed
  11. Hi, I have an old TSX 47 30 that has an I / O fault (red led on) green led on run and plc stopped. I'm writing to see if you can help me to establish communication and achieve the download of the program. I do not have the communication cable or the PL7-3 software under OS 2. So far I have done searches on the schneider page, forums and all the links are lost or deactivated. I have read your answers in plc of the same series and I observe that a converter rs 232 to current loop is needed. In this case here in Venezuela it is difficult to get this converter, however I have observed the black box model 232 CL-E, CL050A and I think it can be useful. I also have an old toshiba laptop with windows xp with a native rs 232 port to avoid another converter and I could make the connection cable DB25-DB9 to the PLC. Now I would miss the procedure to make an OS / 2 bios and get the software or make a virtual machine in which case I require the appropriate software .. thanks for your help
  12. How to connect + Program wire encoder

Hi all, I am not a PLC expert but can find my way within the program and would like to develop much more. For work (We sell industrial bandsaws) we have purchased a Posital Fraba wire encoder, and we would like to hook it up to our Mitsubishi FX3G PLCs to measure at what height the saw bow of the bandsaw is at that moment. Unfortunately I have little experience with connecting these things, as other encoders used in our machines are pre-installed by our factory. Below is described what functions the wires have. What I thought was the following: Pin 1 goes to an input of the PLC Pin 2 goes to + (or 24V) Pin 3 doesn't go to "Ground" as they describe, but instead to - (or 0V), which is technically ground Pin 4 and 5 we don't use, correct me if I am wrong. The saw bow goes up and down only, and I thought we don't need to use these wires.   I connected it like this, connected wire 1 to X0 on PLC and just to test I made the program read:   M8000 ------------------------------ C235 k99999   But the value stays 0, whether I pull the wire or not. So something is wrong, but what, I really can't figure out. Hope someone can help!

Dear all... I am new here. I have a problem when connect my laptop to new PLC FX3U series. There was sign that I must update a driver for FX3U-USB-BD. Where can I get it for free? Could anyone here help me to share a link please?   thanks! Haniv
  14. Hi all, I am taking a Kubler draw wire encoder back to a 1734-VHSC24 and having a little bit of an issue with the rollover.  With the draw wire untouched the output value seems to be fluctuating over time and appears to be drifting backwards to the rollover value making our distance measurements completely useless.  Does anyone have any insight as to why that might be?
  15. My SLC 5/04 is currently connected to a PanelView 1000 having only the RS-232 and using the SLC's bottom RS232 Port.  The PanelView Cable we can disconnect and connect a laptop, go online and troubleshoot problems, BUT we have to disconnect the laptop and reconnect the PanelView to operate the machine. Question:  Which of the other two Ports on the 5/04 could I use for the laptop connection leaving the PanlView connected? Also what cable to use on the 8-Pin Programming Port or the 3-Pin DH+ Port?
  16. I'm attempting to make a backup of a program, complete with comments. I go connect to the PLC over Ethernet, and select Use Upload File to merge the comments from an original copy of the program. After that, I go file-saveas to backup the program. However the new saved file, complete with comments is only 134 KB, and the very original copy of the program is 230 KB, from 2003. Is there a reason for this, the program hasn't shrunk in size, only minor tweaking of some span calibration numbers.
  17. Hey, I recently started trying my hand at creating function blocks. At the moment I'm trying to create a PID function block, however I keep getting this error: "ERROR: Variable does not have enough size." No idea why it does this. Can anyone help?

  20. Hello all - Wanted to check in and get some ideas on how everyone else out there stays organized with the various connectors, cables, etc. Currently I have been using a decent sized laptop backpack (keeping my laptop in there, spare battery and charger) along with various cables, connectors, external drive, CDs, screwdriver sets, wire crimps/strippers, etc. Seems though as I've been getting into different projects, different PLCs and such that the 'inventory' has been growing. Just wanted to hear others thoughts. Also, if you could maybe throw out your NEED TO CARRY items I'd be interested in what everyone else has to say. Sorry if this has been posted before or somewhere else. Thanks,  Kyle
  21. Exceed maximum step size

Hi guys!   Need some help from the real specialists!   I`am used to work normally with Scheider Unity and make my program`s always in function blocks. Now working on my first GXworks2 project, and programmed the whole project also in FBD.   I have an FX2N-32MR plc, and defined in the configuration the maximum step size of the cpu to 8000 steps. I have compiled my program successfully, but the result gives an program size of 10217 steps. (and i`m not finished programming yet)   Converting the program to ladder or ST is not possible i think....?  (and i`am not very familiar with those languages) Add additional memory card is also not possible because of the type installation. Did have some self-made function blocks inside, but they are very simple.     How is counting of steps working in GXworks2? Are the 8000 steps for the complete project, or per POU, so than split into pou,s will reduce steps??  Strange is when i add one single BIT move block into the program, and compile again. Program size becomes 10229.  (so the one move block is 12 steps?)   Are there any tips for reducing the memory/program  load?

  23. Hi All, I am pretty new at electrical design for PLC control panels. We are a UL508A shop, so this is the code I refer to most. Something struck me as odd when I was trying to size wire for this control panel. UL508A 28.3.1 says this: The required size of the field wiring terminal shall not be less than 14 AWG (2.1 mm2) and shall be determined by: a) Calculating the required ampacity per 28.3.2 – 28.3.6; and b) Determining the minimum field wiring conductor size from Table 28.1 having a corresponding ampacity that is equal to or greater than the required ampacity from (a). How can the minimum wire size be #14 AWG? We use #16 AWG for wire to the PLC modules? Are we breaking code or is there something I am missing? Also, understanding code books can be difficult. Is there a website or place I can go to get a plain English translation? I feel like I will read a sentence over and over again to try to understand what they are saying, and feel like there's is a much easier way to say it than the way it is written. For example, "28.3.1 b" ……...what is it really saying?
  24. Hi guys, I am setting up my test rig, to learn more about modbus communication.  My test units are CJ2M-CPU31,  SCU42 and 2 units MX2 inverters.   I have already downloaded manuals W494 and W336, and I am searching for the type of RS-485 cable to be used.   What type of comm. cable are you using, in setting up your modbus connection? Could you please share your preferred type of cable. Thank you. Cheers. Leo
