  1. Hello, I have a Q02CPU and QJ71E71-100 terminal and want to do a simple test of the Fernhill SCADA system. I have successfully connected the Fernhill software project to my PLC and gotten a word variable from the PLC be represented by a tag in the Fernhill SCADA system. However, I have issues doing the same for my bit variables. In Fernhill they should be internal relays but I get error 4031h in Fernhill: Melsec Error 4031h - The specified device number is outside the device range. I do not understand what is wrong. My PLC variables are each a global variable, internal relay in other words. In Fernhill I define each tag as an internal relay. The "device" from my simplified understanding is the identity of the variable in the PLC. It matches the PLC and Fernhill as shown in the pictures provided. Thanks in advance! PS. I don't get the error if I define the tags as Data Registers instead like I did for the analog variable. But 1) That is not what they are and 2) The tags don't change when the PLC variable is modified. Just a bit suspicious that it stops complaining when it is clearly incorrect...
  2. Proficy iFix 5.8 SCADAs crashing

So, our plant has Proficy iFix 5.8 running on a handful of Windows 7 VM's, which, form my understanding, are running 24/7. However, since before a got here, they have had an issue where iFix will crash usually every couple of months, leading to screens and panels not looking right and freaking out everyone at the plant, and we reboot the VM. Apparently, we have always tried to reboot them every 3 months or so. Long story short, this is a difficult thing to organize at our plant. I would prefer to know why this is happening in the first place and try to fix that problem if possible. I was wondering if anyone else has experience this type of issue or may have any idea why this happens or if this is normal. I can barely find anything useful pertaining to iFix, online. I have attached a pic of what I see in Windows event viewer before rebooting the VMs. This is what mostly caught my attention: Faulting application name: CONMGR.EXE, version: 5.8.8255.0, time stamp: 0x5240ee18 Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.325, time stamp: 0x4df2be1e I haven't been able to find anything concerning Connection Manager either. Any information is appreciated.
  3. Omron plc to Citect Scada communication

Hi Guys, I need some suggestion & solution regarding my recent project. The CQM1H plc which was used earlier is burnt and I am replacing it with CJ2M series Omron plc. Program transfer is possible from CQM1H to CJ2M. But the main issue is the system is controlled by Citect SCADA version 5.50 pack C. The communication of plc and Scada is through 2wire twisted pair cable. I just wanted to know when I replace the plc and convert the program do I have to change any settings or parameters in Scada? If I keep the same previous plc parameter in new plc and check the tags correctly in new plc as per old plc then the new system will communicate with Scada? I am new to citect scada so please provide your support and help.
  4. I have an inquiry about the best IoT plan for an alarm system that sends SMS notifications. Our company is currently deploying an alarm system, and we would like to configure it to send SMS notifications to at least 10 cell phones in case of any incidents.   We are planning to use a cellular modem connected to the main server, which would have a SIM card from AT&T. However, we are not sure which IoT plan to select for this purpose.   Based on our requirements, we would like to receive SMS notifications for any incidents that occur on our alarm system. We estimate that we would send around 100 SMS messages daily, with an average message size of 160 bytes. We would also need to ensure that the data usage for SMS messages is kept to a minimum. Has anybody worked with an AT&T plan that allows sending and receive SMS's for alarm notifications?
  5. Hi there! I'm dealing with some ActiveX object issues in a CX-Supervisor SCADA project. The thing is that the computer where the runtime was running failed and was replaced. The project used a couple of dropdown list objects that worked in the older PC, but now everytime it access or calls the ActiveX object in some way, an error saying the object couldn't be found appears in the error register and the runtime stops working. I've been reading about Activex and Cx-Supervisor and I tried installing NI Measurement Studio, as it appears to be the software related to the objects in the project, but this didn't fix it. I see in the 'Csutomize Toolbox' window near activex objects, that there are plenty of options to choose, but I got no information about this window online. So my question here is: is there any 'standard' ActiveX object type that works on any PC, or am I missing something?   Thanks in advance!

  12. Hi All, Has anyone had the experience of connecting two Fernhill Scada units using an OPC UA?  I am intending to use Fernhill Scada on my Master PLC to read tags from my Slave PLC's Fernhill Scada. Then, displaying local tags (Master PLC, "Fernhill SCADA Unit 1") and read/scanned tags from the Slave PLC, "Fernhill SCADA Unit 2". In the meantime, I am trying to use both of my Fernhill SCADA units interact with each other (one unit to read tags from the other unit) by using Internal Digital Tag on the Fernhill SCADAs.  Any help would be appreciated.

  16. Good Morning,   My name is Joseph Rhodes, I work as an electronic technician for the City of Tuscaloosa at the wastewater treatment plant. I work to keep the plant up and running as well as 64 lift stations spread out around Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A majority of our lift stations utilize Verizon Cell Modems, RV50s to be exact. It's rather easy connecting remotely to these lift stations as I can configure a driver as an ethernet / ip driver then associate an IP of that lift station (ex. 10.181.3.104 is lift station 104, 10.181.3.105 is lift station 105, etc). However, for the lift stations that do not utilize cell modems. We use GE MDS 9710 and 9810 radios. It is these lift stations that I have yet to figure out a way to connect remotely to the LS RTU PLC. All of our lift stations use Allen Bradley MicroLogix 1200s or 1400s. These lift stations that use the MDS radios communicate information to water tanks then that information is sent back through other channels. I was wondering is there a way to associate these lift stations on RSLinx that use GE MDS radios ?
  17. I hear a lot of people talking about the annoyance of price estimates (meaning they don't get a clear, transparent price from the beginning) and the costly engineering that seems to never end. Do you think that a step-by-step, clear process and course of action from A to Z would be beneficial for companies? And I'm not talking here about SCADA software, like Ignition. I'm talking about using Ignition to build and implement a fully working SCADA solution, customized to your company BUT you know exactly the price and the methods/processes that will be used (it's a replicable framework to get similar results for multiple companies - and the results would be a SCADA solution without the headaches of the unknown prices and engineering characteristics). Basically, a clear project-based approach rather than an hourly approach where things can get confusing.    Do you think the industrial space could use something like that?
  18. Scada/ Site management

Hi,  I have basic experience with PLCs but have a degree in electrical engineering. I have landed a job which requires me to advance my plc knowledge. I am based within the UK and need some advice on how to go about a solution to a problem. The site I am doing this for needs a site managment system. The site is within food production, this would be monitoring of mostly trips and faults within a wide range of industrial equipment (Pumps, compressors, fridges). The site is mostly Mitsubishi and would like one centralised portal within the workshop to view all of the equipment availability. Thank you.
  19. Citect Scada Modent Bit Read

Hi team; I am struggling with a Citect SCADA read of some data. The system is using the "Modnet3" driver over TCP/IP to talk with a system (Modnet 3 as its TCP/IP with first register at 0 and 0 to 15 bits). I am reading the modbus data into variables which is working fine for the analogue values all defined as real in citect. The Issue I have is that the driver help says I can direct reference a bit in a word, in my case address 45052.1 Holding register 45052 and Bit 1. If I read this as a UINT I get a value of 147 corresponding to bits 1,2,5 and 8. Citect generates no errors for the tag setup where I define 45052.0 through 45052.15 but all remain as zero in tag lists.  Any help would be fantastic Kindest Regards Howard
  20. Dear Experts, I don’t have much knowledge and now working for a new project of cross-country Oil transportation pipeline SCADA. It’s a pipeline of more than 200 Km with 2 terminals (dispatch & receiving) and several valve stations through the pipeline will be connected with the central SCADA. The communication will be done by OFC placed along the pipeline. Apps of Leak detection system (LSD) have to supply and integrated with the SCADA system. Please suggest me which SCADA software should we use/suitable for the oil transportation pipeline? (ABB/Siemens/honeywell/else) Thanks.

  22. Hello everyone! I would like to connect a Micrologix 1100 with Citect 7.5 via ABMLXEIP (updated to latest version). I tried everything and it is still not working. The Citect and the PLC are on the same subnet and the ping works fine. All the configuration is done as the manual says (I attach the pictures). I have one NIC card and is connected to the PLC. The role is setted to “Server and Control Client”. The kernel has this error: [ERROR] [CORE] [0x07fc] [IOServer] [(GLOBAL)] [ErrorLog()][errlog.cpp] [266 ] Error: Channel offline, cannot talk CINIT 0015 PORT1_BOARD1 IODev_1100 Error_in_CMD-2 16 Generic 000021 Driver 00000020 (0x00000014) Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Gustavo.
  23. Dear all, I have a FX2N-20MR chinese semi-clon of a Mitsubishi PLC. It has only a serial DB9 port that cannot be removed or exchanged (which is possible in the Mitsubishi original PLC). I wonder if I can make a simple SCADA system using that port and just one computer. I am reading this post: https://forums.mrplc.com/index.php?/topic/9653-fx-series-and-modbus/ And I am wondering how I can do what it is suggested there in the second message:  to use a free FB block, available in GX IEC (but not in GX Developer), which will communicate modbus via a standard RS232 BD board. Later on it mentions a library called ModbSFX. That message is from 15 years ago so I am wondering if now there is some other way to do it, perhaps some other software has that functionality? I don't have GX IEC. I am a student trying to make a project so I would like a cheap and simple solution. Any help to do so will be very welcome. Thanks Regards Marcelo
  24. I am now part of a startup company based on energy optimisation of HVAC in buildings. I am assigned to have research on which SCADA system to select for HVAC energy optimisation. The model is in such a way that, we need to create a SCADA / HMI for the client's building on top of existing Building Management System (BMS) to achieve energy saving.  I am still an intern and I am requested to research on various SCADA options available in the market. I have few doubts regarding: 1. How can I select one SCADA / HMI over the other?  2.GE Cimplicity and Niagara 4 are two option which I am interested in. What is the major difference between both? (Price and functionality) 3. Is Tridium Niagara 4 a SCADA software? ( I read about it but I didn't understand as I am new to this field). Is it same like tia portal which is a software that is used to program plc and create user interface??
