  2. Mitsubishi iQ-R Series

    Hi Has anyone got any real life experience with the new Mitsubishi iQ-R series?  I have been assigned a major capital project to replace our old ageing DCS system.  Our current PLC backbone is about 40x Q2ASHCPU, 10x Q06UDEHCPU and about 2xA2SCPU all linked up via Melsecnet/10 network with communication links into the DCS system via Modbus RTU utilising the QJ71MB91 modbus card. Due to the nature of my companies process and the limitations on plant downtime it is estimated this project could take up to 5 years to complete, with this in mind I am wanting to install a system that will not be obsolete (or unsupported) in a few years, hence, I am very interested in the new iQ-R series with it being Mitsubishi's latest and greatest.  However, recent communications with my local Mitsi rep is not filling me with confidence that the iQ-R series is not as well supported/developed as the Q series.  A major requirement during the development stages of this project is the new ability of the new processors to be able to talk to the old DCS up until a point where the DCS nodes will be completed removed and replaced with a modern SCADA package.  Hence, the requirement of a Modbus Slave card for the iQ-R (i.e. a QJ71MB91 equivalent) which I am told is in development, but has no fixed timescales.  Previous experience with Mitsubishi developments of cards is normally years not months. Any information anyone can provide on their experience of the iQ-R series would be greatly appreciated and if anyone knows if a Modbus Slave card is in development that would be useful.  I realise i could utilise the Q series extension rack with a iQ-R processor but this is not the route i want to go down.   4. Beckhoff and AS-Interface

    Hi, I’m trying to control 10 Safety switchgear using AS interface, and since I’m using Beckhoff as a PLC I want to use "KL6211 | AS-Interface master terminal" as a Gateway but since this is the first time I’m using Beckhoff I’m a bit lost, So my questions are: -          Is it a good idea to use a Beckhoff ASI terminal? -          How to configure it? -          Is there a possibility to configure it using embedded PC ( I’m using CX2030)? Excuse my English.
  5. Master/Slave Communication

    Hello guys, I am using Fatek PLC's to communicate with each other as a Master & Slave through zigbee which is connected through RS485. And I succeed. But the issue is that I have to communicate each other at a distance of about 2km where zigbee out of range to each other. I am bit confused here; 1) whether I use RF booster? Does it work? 2) Should I introduce extra PLC as a repeater between master slave? But this(extra added) PLC repeater also become as a master(Master Repeater).or any idea? Most important I can using Fatek Protocol or Modbus RTU or Modbus ASCII prootcol.

  7. 8_decimal Data Displays as only 4_Decimals !

    I am Facing Problem Getting Kwh Readings From My Satec MFM(PM130-PLUS), Required for an easy & reliable Monitoring On Energy Consumption . Connected via RTU Slave Interface with SCADA User Interface (GE_Cimplicity). Here's what happening : Actual Kwh Reading has 8_decimal data digits on MFM LED Display but on Cimplicity SCADA User Interface Screen It only able to Display it as 4_Decimals point digit, eg, 63290058 kwh shows as 0058 , and 15299999 kwh shows as 9999 , and then 15300001 kwh shows as 0001 i.e 1 only! Plz Do a Rply , your slight approach to my Query Will be highly Appreciated!! :)  
  8. Programming a HMI to revert to Home Screen

    Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone here could explain to me how I can program my human-machine interface (HMI) to revert to a Home Screen after a period of inactivity. If the user has to leave at any time, and leaves the HMI on the last screen he/she was working on, I want the HMI to revert back to my Home Screen after 60 seconds inactivity. Has anyone here done anything similar to this before? Do you think it's worth the trouble of having such a function built into the HMI? Thank you for your time and for reading.
  9. Hi guys, I'm in the middle of a little university project, I'm attempting to implement a control system purely based on artificial intelligence. A neural network will be used to map the characteristics of a power plant. A fuzzy logic controller will be used instead of the conventional PID and finally a genetic algorithm will be used to tune the controller while the system is online. This is all simulated of course. Each of those AI's will be developed in Matlab. Only problem with that is, is it outputs the code in C or C++ (From memory). I would have to convert this to structured text (Based on Pascal). So to circumvent this problem I thought I would just directly interface matlab to the PLC (Schneiders M340).  My idea being, all the calculations are done in matlab which are then sent back to the PLC. However this presents me with a new problem of how I would be able to interface matlab to the PLC. If anyone has experience with this sort of connectivity, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hey Guys,i'm working on implementing the master side of a custom serial master-slave protocol between a B&R PLC and an electronic card.As part of the data i'm sending and receiving is used to close various loops(e.g. cascaded temperature control where the temperature sensors and actuators are connected to the electronic card) , but other data is not as usefull (e.g. various data used for display or at specific times), i believe i will also need to implement some sort of priority mechanism.my first question is - based on your experience - how would the general master side SW architecture look like? (for example - the send side of mine is comprised of 3 tasks all running under the same cycle - lower level task in charge of opening the port, sending the data etc, a mid level task in charge of creating the packet based on command from upper level, giving commands to lower level and using status from it to continue and finally - an upper level task in charge of deciding which messages to send).my second question is - how would you implement the priority mechanism?thanks
  11. Hello.   I have a question regarding NB series display. The comunication is made through RS232 / RS485 comunication. I would like to use NB display as MODBUS MASTER and SLAVE aplication. - Display would work as MADBUS-MOSTER to talk to plc controllers. (Working through COM2 - RS485) - Secondly, Display would work as MODBUS-SLAVE to talk with (SCADA). (Working – Registers LW, LB))   What I have trouble with, is: - I would like to change variable in the PLC - for example : Regime_PUMP (address: 0x0001). - Regime_PUMP variable should be settable from all three devices PLC <-> DISPLAY <-> SCADA So: - If I change Regime_PUMP through PLC it should refresh also on DISPLAY and SCADA. - If I change Regime_PUMP through DISPLAY it should refresh also on PLC and SCADA. - If I change Regime_PUMP through SCADA it should refresh also on DISPLAY and PLC.   Does anybody have an example for NB series of display to do this?   Best regards.
  12. CP1E MODBUS Maximum Slave

    Hello everyone, so I noticed in Omron's CP1E manual, there are no certain info on maximum number of Modbus Slaves that can be attached, however the PLC itself able to connect to slave number 1 - 247 I have read from common MODBUS specs, that 32 slaves are the limit for most MODBUS connections. However there are also statements that with proper design (1/8 transceivers) that we can extend number of connected slaves to 256. Anyone have experience or info about this with Omron PLC?   15. Hi, I have AB Micro820 PLC (2080-LC20-20QBB) which, acc. to the specs, can be both Ethernet/IP master and slave. I need it to be a master(scanner) and communicate with a KEYENCE DL-EP1 module, which is Ethernet/IP slave(adapter), but don't see any way to make that happen. How do you declare/configure Ethernet/IP slaves in Connected Components Workbench and how do you add slaves to your CCW project? I have an EDS file for the slave, but what to do with it? I imported it (have no idea where) with the EDS hardware installation tool which reported all was OK, but do not see the slave anywhere in the CCW. I only see in the Device Toolbox > Discover, but the only available option there is to remove it :) Thanks for any suggestions. Peter

    Hi I want to use FX3U as Modbus slave. I am using 485-ADP MB and successfully communicated as slave device. Now my master is able to access all my registers. But I want my Master to access only D1000 to D1100 registers. How can I do this? Please help me out. Thank You Joshua

    I have a project that currently has a PC using C++ to send commands over to a Motoman Robot for palletizing. My customer wants to get rid of the PC since no one on the plant floor can troubleshoot if the PC goes down. They're asking that I put a PLC in in lieu of the PC, and control from there. The PLC and respective code is no problem, where I'm stuck is gathering info on what protocol I can use on the Motoman. My goal is to make the Motoman as "dumb" as possible and control everything from the PLC.
