Laser Class 4 and Class 5 Safety?

14 posts in this topic

Does anyone have any good references to Class 4 and Class 5 laser safety for automation? Guarding? Anything of that nature? Any good websites you've got bookmarked? I tried Googling a few, but none talk about guarding a class 5 laser etc...

You may want to replace "class 5" with "class v" in your search. Got some interesting results that way but don't have time to sort through and pull links.

http://www.osha.gov/dts/osta/otm/otm_iii/otm_iii_6.html#4 According to OSHA, there is no class 5 or V. Looking at the description for class IV, it couldn't get much worse. When I googled laser class V, i found an article about using lasers in dentistry to repair a class V cavity in a tooth, but nothing about a class 5 laser.

Yeah they did. So from what I have read, class 4 lasers burn skin and light stuff on fire. What do you use them for?

I've learned alot about Laser Safety in the last three days. I am looking for some Laser Film. I found a place that sells sheets like 24 x 36 inches: http://www.kenteklaserstore.com/acrylic_312.aspx But I wondered if anyone knew of a place to get something like stick on film or even if it existed. I have two lasers both class 4. One is a Leister 800-980 nm wave length diode laser, 50 Watts The other is the Keyence Marker, 10,600 nm wave length, CO2 laser, 30 Watts It would be nice to find some film to block both those wavelengths. I am using them on a job. One of them welds a part with an X-Y servo, the other marks a julian date or something on the part.
