OPC stuff?

5 posts in this topic

I have ethernet connection on my plcs working and I need to get information from omron plc's to PC's and siemens plcs. Anyone has good ideas how to do it? I was thinking about using OPC server. I just need to transfer few simple numeric values. Any good OPC servers who can connect both S7 and CJ1-? (preferrably free so I could just test if it works).

Have a look at Kepware: http://www.kepware.com/Products/kepserverex_features.html Demo runs for 2hrs and supports all major PLC brands. Excellent help on setting up comms and good tag database editing. I have used it quite a lot and am very satisfied.

Also suggest you take a look at InGear. http://www.ingeardrivers.com/omron_opc_ser..._opc_server.htm

Hi, Is this occasionally, or as part of your control system? I'm not sure I would add a PC, Windows, and 2 OPC drivers inside a critical system... Can anyone else thing of good alternatives? Howabout: - Use a Serial link... maybe with Modbus or similar? - Using Profibus/ProfiNet as a 'datalink' network? - Use some kind of gateway device? The Omron NS allows reading and writing to Omron and Siemens (although seems like overkill!) Anything else simliar? Anyone got more ideas like this? Bertie

I would go for the profibus. The siemens plc can be master, then all you need is the PRT21 slave card. Very easy to use.
