  1. I'll set the scene a little before I explain the issue that I am having. I have an application where I have a Linear Servo Slide acting as a Press Kick-off cylinder on a ceramic press. In order to trigger this Slide accurately, I have installed an Absolute Rotary Encoder (a Turck product) to the press, which outputs an Analog signal for its specific position. I then have this as an input into my CompactLogix L33ERM through a 1769-IF4 Analog Input card. Within my code, I'm trying to capture the moment where the press has presented the part out of the die and it can be ejected from the press cavity without damage the part. Mis-timing on this ejection and the part will clip the die pad tooling and incur damage upon ejection. Now, one last point of clarification, I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade, so I don't claim to be an expert programmer. But I have learned a lot and have gained experience in programming applications like this, so I can learn quick and should be able to program this task. I have had my local Allen Bradley guy look at the code I'm using for this application, and he thinks it looks good, but I'm still having issues. What I have done, is within the code, I have a window that I look for, of the encoder's position, to trigger the ejection shoe to fire its sequence and kick the part off. However, I have had to make this window so large in order for the code to see it every press cycle, that occasionally, the ejection shoe will be fired at the back end of the window, which is actually too late, and my part is being damaged. Attached is a snapshot of the code. The OkSamplePress.DN is actually a timer that I have that looks at the current press rate and puts a delay in to not allow the kick-off to fire too early, because I was actually getting a glitch before where the kick-off would fire prematurely for some reason. I don't know if anyone can offer assistance on this or not, but I would greatly appreciate any help at all. Its become quite frustrating, as the rest of my machine functions quite well, and this seems to be the nagging issue I can't get rid of. Thanks in advance...Josh
  2. Hello! I saw there were some people on this forum who works with theese old PLC:s so i try here: Run onto this ancient Omron PLC - C20-CPU84E. Someone has not maintaned the battery enough.. and someone has not upgraded the machine. Stupidity. Now they want it running in three days. About 100+ I/O so its interesting to kick the old horse once more. I took the CPU off-site for investigation. I do not have the programming console etc but I am able to hire equipment from Omron if needed. PLC is said to have PROM. CPU is set to RAM ( dip-switches ). "PROM" Circuit has no programming window. It does not look like Omron EPROM images found on google. PROM chip has marking "Omron BP0J". * Application does not seem to need timers. Battry dead. LEDs: POWER ON RUN OFF ALARM OFF ERROR ON For testing - I charged the battery to 3.3+ V ( later resoldered the connector to a fresh CJ1W-BAT01, also gives 3.3V ) LEDs: POWER OFF RUN ON ALARM OFF ERROR ON Manual says it wants the battery alarm reset using programming terminal. Question: Run is lit: does it actually run? Or is it - it tried to run?. I tried manipulating some inputs and suspect the later. If it run - I could travel on-site and see how the machine behaves. If not - i have to get theprogramming terminal first. Thank you for any input.
  3. I have a CP1L by Omron and a barcode reader by Honerwell. I want to activate the serial port 1, to connect it with the reader. The reader shoul read one of the 2 main barcodes. If the reader get the barcode 1, then it should read 3 times the barcode A and activate an output; but if it read the barcode 2, it should read 3 times the barcode B, and also activate an output. I want made my programm in ladder programation, How I can activate the serial port 1? How I set the the serial port 1 as an input to the function block RXDU? How works the FB RXDU? How I can set the codes? How I set the fb RXDU as an output?
  4. Working with arrays

Hi! I can not understend how to work with array from functional blocks. For example, I want to create some functional block (on ST lang.), send to it some array and recive from it some new array (FB make some monipulations with input array). FB code: FOR i:=0 TO 4 DOinputLoadArray:= outputLoadArray*2;END_FOR; How does look my main program (only on ST language) for send input and recive output arrays?

  7. Migration from C60H

First of all, I'd like to say hello to all of you. This is my first post here. I'm not well experienced in Omron products and I need a little help from you. My client has an old machine with Omron C60H PLC, He asked me the make the backup of the program and put the newer PLC. I'm thinking of using CP1L series (or CJ2 - not sure of it now). The question is, what accesories do I need to connect and upload program from C60H to my PC? I heard that the 3G2a6-LK201 module is adequate. Do I need something else? I'm using CX-programmer. Can I handle uploading program from C60H with this software? Is there a function that converts old program to newer version compatibile with CP1L or CJ2 series, or must it be done manually? If you have any tutorials or tips and tricks about migrating from C60H to newer series of Omron, I would very appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Marcin
  8. Hello, I am having troubles configuring my Data Station Plus to be able to read my Vacon VFD registers over a Profibus network. The network is configured from an Omron PLC. I have communication but i do not know how to map the tags on Crimson to be able to read what the drives are doing. I am most likely thinking my offset on the tags that i have set are the main problem. Any input/ suggestion would be great thanks Specs on System: -Omron PLC CJ2M w/profibus PRM21 -Omron HMI NS-12 -3 Vacon NX VFD's -Data Station Plus w/profibus module
  9. Induction Motor with encoder

Hello, I am not sure if this topic is too far from what the forum concerns, but any advice is greatly appreciated including reference to other reference. I want to know if any induction motor has internal encoder equipped. We are using servo motors, and additionally an encoder for position check. Because the position control resolution requirement is about 1 degree, I am thinking about abandoning servo motor, and to use induction instead. Servo motor has internal encoders for outputting pulse information. And I wonder, if there are induction motors with internal encoders. Thanks in advance. Ting

  12. Omron CJ1M-CPU13-ETN to .NET Framework

Hello People, In my school we had an assignment to program a Sorting machine using an Omron PLC and CX-Programmer. Now we got the assignment to make an HMI that we can open on our own computer (Windows 8.1) so that we can control various things of our program, such as reading and writing bits, and other data (To the PLC obviously). Now I only have very little experience in reading and writing data from a PLC (Using a PC), I have used the libnodave library to connect to a Siemens S7-300 PLC. With this I managed to read and write bits, and also read and write data to a DataBlock. We wrote this program in Visual Basic 2013 using the .NET Framework with the libnodave library as an added extension. Now I have searched far and wide on the internet but have not come across any good examples of how to do this with an Omron PLC. So I hoped that I could get some advice from you guys. What I'm asking is if anybody here has maybe a link to a guide/ example program/ manual that could get me forward? And if I can easily get this done with Visual Basic, by adding an extension, could anybody tell me which extension this would be? And where I could find it? I appreciate any help. :D Thanks in advance, BitsNBytesRookie

  17. Hello, I am looking for Omron PLC's bit set instruction, which is similar to Mitsubishi's, like, in Mitsubishi PLC: Set B1000Z0 if Z0 is 10AA, then B10AA will be set. has Omron's instruction set contains such functionality? In my application, PLC will receive a number for example N(i.e. a sequence number), and I want to set the set the Nth bit in a memory block (W or so). Many thanks in advance. Xing

  19. need help with SCADA database. moving 50k points

Hello, Let me preface this. I have used this site many times when searching for issues and it has always been helpful. This is my first post here. I have been programming PLC's, HMI's, VFD's etc etc for 15 years, fairly complex stuff. I have also done lots of SCADA programming but more just for basic interface, monitoring, basic parameters changes, logging, etc etc. I am not facing a setup where I must do a large recipe/batch data transfer and I am confused as to what the best path is to achieve this. I have fairly basic knowledge of VB script as I have not needed to use it very often. Here is the problem I am facing. The SCADA package the customer has is Omron CX-Supervisor. The network is all Ethernet Based 1) I have 26 moulding machines on the plant floor2) There are 50 different moulds that are moved around from machine to machine3) Each mould can run 1 of 10 different colours4) There are 100 differing cycle parameters for each colour/mould combination =50x10x100 = 50 k points for total machine that = 50k x 26 = 1.3 million ! What the end result will be is this. From the SCADA operator terminal they would like to be able to keep a 'master set' of these settings, call up a mould/colour combo and see the individual parameters. Then they would like to edit individual parameters and download to each individual machine, or all at once. I do have a PLC at the Main terminal that was used for translation of the old serial network to ethernet. All of the serial connections have been removed so it is basically doing nothing. I could use this as a "master" for holding parameters if needed. What is the best way to go about this. Create a database, use the built in recipe manager, use PLC here as 'master storage". I feel once I get down a path it will make more sense...I just don't want to pick the wrong option and have to redo it all. Keep in mind my PLC coding is vastly superior to my knowledge of database manipulating and VB coding ThanksDan
  20. I'm new to Omron, and after several days of diving into manuals trying to figure this out on my own and giving myself a headache I've come to accept that i need help. my task is the following: Control of the discrete and analog inputs/outputs in a DeviceNet system using an Omron CJ1M PLC’s and PT’s. Use at least one thermocouple, one analog input, and one analog output for the DeviceNet network. Use a pushbutton and a light for the start of the process and an indicator for the started process. I have a Drt1-Ad04 input, a Drt1-ad02 output, and a Drt1-ts04t temperature control. My devicenet is Cj1w-drm21, The Omron system itself is a cj1m-cpu13 etn21. I have node addresses for my input, outputs and temperature control, those being 35 for input, 25 or 30 for output and for temperature control 5, 15, or 20. The ip address im using for this project is 142.214.143.9I'm using Cx programmer, Designer and Integrator. On Cx programmer I've managed to create an IO table but i have no idea on how to begin the program or even get a current reading from my generator. On Designer I've made what i believe to be the layout of the pushbuttons, I just have no idea of what addresses to enter. And on integrator i'm having troubles on figuring out how to make a routing table. I've went through many manuals and either i'm missing something really basic here or I just have no idea on what I'm doing. The only advice I was given was to dive into more manuals and find my addresses for my inputs, outputs, and temperature or to find the information from an outside source be that a forum or customer service. I am able to provide more information, and screenshots of what I have done if needed. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!
  21. String encoder

I need to replace existing encoder with quadrature output which is failing. We need to have minimum measuring distance of 60 inches. The encoder installed by manufacturer is Temposonics R-series RHS0650UMSO1Q1AC10 The resolution can be lower than the current encoder, probably 500 counts/inch or higher would be OK. Do you have any product that can be used? I was thinking about string encoder but I am open to suggestions.
  22. I successfully read the input and output of OMRON PLC CPM2A with Indusoft web studio (IWS) by using OMPLC driver. I have select OMPLC driver (Serial Com). Then configure a driver worksheet. The driver worksheet is the place that PLC tags are associated to InduSoft tags. I successfully read the I/O but I failed to write the I/O of PLC by using IWS. Can you help me? It is difficult to find OMPLC Standard Driver Sheet (SDS) for control relay output block (CROB) and Analogue output block (AOB). The attached diagram shows My Standard Driver Sheet (SDS) setup. Thank you for your kind cooperation. Zack Malaysia
  23. Hi Good Day, I need a suggestion, I have an omron encoder, encoder counter meter (K3NC-NB1A) and communication card RS-232C 25pins (K31-FLK1). My question is, what is the best omron software to read and manipulate the data from the encoder (I have CX-one software but I only use CX-programmer). I want to capture the encoder pulse and convert to velocity, acceleration, deceleration and also energy absorbtion. I have to use mathematical formula such as two times differentiation. I also need to show grapf and display final result that is energy absorbtion reading. Or is it much simple if I use VB / labview / java software? Thank you in advance
  24. I have a project where I need to use an SSI Absolute Encoder with a Micrologix 1400 PLC. I've never done this and need help. The SSI have a Clock and Data signals that are different from anything I've ever used. 1.Can it be done using the HSC inputs? 2. I found an AMCI card I could use but I am trying to keep everything AB and in the Micro Family. 3. I don't want to use Gray Scale encoders because of the number of Inputs I have to use. Trying to package a small enclosure and don't much room left. 4. AB sells an SSI encoder but they don't have any info on hooking up to anything other than Point IO module.(kills my budget) Thanks and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. ~Angel
  25. We are currently using a SureStep STP-DRV-4850 stepper drive from Automation Direct with their bipolar STPMTR23079D Stepper motor rated at 1.1 ohm, 2.8 amp per phase and 1.8 degree per step. The setup is a 24 volt rotary encoder 600 PPR AB quad that is turned 1 revolution per 6” of measured travel of the machine. We have a large “clock” dial that shows 24” of travel that the stepper motor directly turns. It has been programmed for 9600 pulse per revolution AB quadrature following and seems to follow the movement quite well. The issue that we having is several times a day the power is shut off to the machine and the stepper upon startup moves to the closest full step which looks to be about 3/8”. We need to save its location or at least keep the dial close to its current mircostep if possible. Do I have something set-up wrong? Should I be using a different drive? Thanks in advance!
