  1. Ron, Here is a link to the "L1" CompactLogix. http://www.ab.com/en/epub/catalogs/12762/2181376/2416247/407648/7921716/CompactLogix-5370-Controllers.html 1769-L16ER-BB1B I call it a micrologix KILLER, because it only cost $1300 retail for 16 in, 16 out, dual ports, USB programming, and it's a TAG based PLC.... I think I figured this one out, there is a task running pretty hard and it seemed like it could not service the tool. I placed the PLC into PROGRAM mode to stop the busy task and that worked. I have also been able to correct the problem in the PLC as well. Thanks for the links.

  2. I would think that if I was going to quote you that I would have contacted you and let you know that I am working on a quote. I don't think you are just going to get quotes showing up out of the blue. So with that said, if anyone else hasn't contact you direct with an intention to quote, then they have terrible salesmanship...So you probably won't hear from anyone else.

  3. Ken, I can install an update, I have a support contract, but I was baffled. Me thinking logically, I knew that RS Linx was not finding the slaves. So if LINX can't browse the slaves, I know for certain that Networks won't work. So here is what I finally did. I completely UNINSTALLED and REINSTALLED 3.51 Rs Linx. I added my EDS files back into Linx with EDS Wizard...and VOILA it worked....Linx was drilling into the SLAVES from the Master Card, so then when I switched over to RS Networks 9.0, that works now again too. I dunno what happened or why, but that's what I did to fix it. The root problem was Linx. The rest of Linx seemed to work great, I.E. Ethernet/IP drivers, DF1 drivers etc...so problem solved.

  4. I got maybe a quick question to bounce off others. I have a Control Logix in my LAB that I had previously configured a working DeviceNet network of slave cards. What I had previously in software was: RS Linx - 3.4 RS Logix 5000 - 17.01 RS Networks (DeviceNET) - 9.00 Then I bought a new Compact Logix L1, which at that point I was forced to upgrade to Studio. So when Studio installed it upgraded RS Linx of course... So now I have: RS Linx - 3.51.01 RS Studio 5000 - 21.00 RS Networks (DeviceNET) - 9.00 I am wondering if RS Linx broke my Networks or if anyone would know why on earth when I go into RS Linx now (3.51) that is shows my 1756-DNB card only, and won't browse any network slaves? I am missing something simple I assume.

  6. I am considering purchasing a bunch of Panelview Plus Compact for some EthernetI/P demo cases. This model here: 2711PC-T6C20D http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/pp/2711pc-pp001_-en-p.pdf I haven't used any of these yet. What are your opinions of these? Basically all I want to do is stuff a Compact L1 PLC with a PanelView Plus. I want to control a single axis robot controller via EthernetI/P very simple salesman tools. I shouldn't exceed the 25 screen limit or the 200 alarm limit, but I am most concerned about any limits in screen development. Did Allen Bradley take away an tools you can't do in a compact panelview plus verses a full blown version? Like I can still make an custom screen I like and animate images etc I assume right? Those are the pitfalls I am most interested in hearing about, if there are hidden "hand-cuffs" you have discovered. Thank you.

  7. Just visited a factory using Ignition, the two guys there was VERY happy with it and how it works with everything. This was just yesterday. Thought I would give some real world feedback from some third party people.

  9. I have really good luck using an Anybus Communicator. Which is an Ethernet/IP device...so NO MSG instructions...thank god...so it's not Ethernet TCP/IP..... Using an Anybus device, I can send strings to ANY serial device. There are a few things you need to do but for the most part it's pretty easy. Being Ethernet/IP, you would use a STRINGS, so each string has to be less than 82 Characters long or you have to make an array and send them back to back. The maximum packet is 496 bytes from the anybus communicator. So long as you don't have to sent strings longer than that.

  10. I am not familiar with Omron as much as I am with AB or GE PLCs. But in Allen Bradley Software, we have a tool called the TASK Monitor. And if we want to monitor the Ethernet/IP performance, max connections, how much CPU is being used for communications rather than user tasks, we go here to look. Does Omron have something similar? This tool is not normally installed with the software package, it's an addon that comes with the installer CD-ROM but you have to go in and install it like a custom setup.

  11. I have a question. I am setting up an Anybus Ethernet/IP Gateway. The maximum transmission of this device is 512 Bytes Input and Output. I don't need the inputs, 32 bytes is fine, however I would like to max out the outputs, to get what I paid for sort of speak..I want the full 512 Bytes on the output size. However, in the RS Logix 5000 software, it won't let me have anything larger that 496 Bytes configured. SINT 8-bit format is fine for what I need and it doesn't seemed to effect it if I choose INT or DINT, the byte size is the same based on byte, word or double word format. Does anyone know where this limitation comes from? 497 bytes yield an error.
