MINC returns zero with non-zero input?
Ken Moore replied to Michael Lloyd's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I can't help, but I do like the info, keep going. I 'm sorry that no one has helped you out, but maybe you can save a future soul. -
The challenge with PLC's is not stopping them. The challenge is making sure you have logic in place to restart correctly.

RsLogix 500 version?
Ken Moore replied to Mendon Systems's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
My guess is you have a newer 1500 with firmware that your really old version of RSLogix 500 does not know. You have two options, try and find an older 1500, or upgrade your software. -
How Many Ethernet Cards for ControlLogix can i connect in one ControlLogix processor

Hey, that looks like a Siemens switch, they are not unmanaged. -
Using ML1100 w/ analog output and analog input module

The control valve is a waste of money in this application. You would be better served with a large fill valve and a trickle valve. Is this an existing system or one in the design phase? -
My local AB rep. stated that V21, which is due out later this year, along with 71 series processors will save comments and descriptions in the processor. I am pleasantly surprised.

Career Opportunities - Controls Engineers

Siemens is not easy to learn, and typically commands a higher salary in the US. For what you are asking I would expect the person to have 5-10 years and would need a larger salary. If you drop the Siemens requirement, then you should have lots of folks that meet the specs. Just my 2cents worth. -
Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you are holding on to the "AD" way, I've never seen the Jump and Label used like you plan, I have always used it for looping. I'm not sure what happens to the logic you will skip over. If a rung was true last scan, and is skipped this scan, will the ladder hold it's last state? Not sure. If you could share more details, maybe someone could bring a different solution to the table for you to examine. For example: How many positions does your switch have? How complex is the code for each position, 10 rungs, 100 rungs, 1000 rungs? Will the same outputs need to be switched in more than one switch position? Ken

Career Opportunities - Controls Engineers
Ken Moore replied to christyarmstrong's topic in For Sale, Employment, Services or Wanted
I think your expectations for the 2nd job are unrealistic. You have listed: 2-3 years engineering experience, preferably in the automotive industry. Proficient in Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC programming. It takes a smart AB guy about 2 years to migrate to Siemens. Having a person with only 2-3 years of experience and the skill sets you are asking for is a very very long shot. I hope the pay matches the requirements. -
1771-IQ16 to SLC Conversion

Spectrum has saved my bacon more than once. Great company. -
I don't know about Europe, but in the US, WonderWare is the most expensive SCADA on the market.

I may be working on a project to migrate a very large PLC5 installation to CLX. I know in the past there was limitations on the amount of analog I/O you could access with CLX to a remote chassis, I assume this has been addressed and I am bringing up old problems that are no longer relevant, right ????

The name is Ken Bob, not Keith, LOL. (to many night shifts ?) This client runs 24/7, so while the weekend option would be nice, it isn't an option.

Okay, they are going all the way, replacing the 1771 I/o. Our local AB rep came by and demo'd the i/o migration hardware. Looks pretty good. You can keep the 1771 Swing arms and connect them to a migration adapter. Saves having to rewire. Of course they only handle standard I/O modules, special modules will have to be rewired, such as CFM's.

I'll know more later this week, right now we are in the "talking about it" stage.

Hi, I moved this topic, you should get better responses here.

Hi folks, Never did a lot of work with the DL line, but I have a customer that has an existing unwinder/winder machine that uses an encoder to measure distance. Currently the encoder is wired to a panel readout and an operator watches the count and takes action when needed. The customer wants to move the counting function (and automated the actions) from the panel display to the PLC, the PLC is a DL205 and has a 9 slot chassis, with one open slot. Will I need to buy an encoder card for this application or can I use something else? I only have to count pulses, nothing else required. Thank you in advance. Ken

What are the EXACT steps you are using to go online? My first guess is that someone has set the controller to read only, if this is the case you will need the password to enable full access.

I am going to Spring House, PA for Siemens training around that time, and was hoping I could kill two birds with one trip, but the Siemens training is a different week. Besides, mixing Siemens and RA at the same time, might cause a disruption in space/time continuity.

There are a few examples in the download section. Here is a link to a program I wrote many years ago, won't cost anything to look: http://forums.mrplc.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=359
