Another PIC driver issue

OK, is it a documented problem that the PIC driver will only allow me to choose between com ports 1-4? Whereas the DF1-RS232 driver lets me choose any of them?

Because real serial ports always COM1-COM4. PIC driver does not work with virtual ports

IIRC, the old software that used this really worked off of the IRQ's rather than the COM ports. The virtual ports don't have the "right" IRQ's for the software to know where to find the PIC.

It's not a big deal, I just noticed that I can't use a usb to serial port addaptor because it comes up as com port 10 on my laptop. However, the same device CAN be used as RS-232 - DF1 or RS485 -DF1. Just wondered why that was.

You can't use USB to Serial adapters with the PIC. You need to get a 1747-UIC

Need to be careful when picking a PCMCIA to Serial adapter as well, not all of them allow you to control the Memory Address and IRQ. This is critical for some older software programs which look only for the old IBM AT Standard Ports and IRQ's.
