Easiest way would be to use a paging modem: http://www.rockwellautomation.com/services/rmd/rapmkit.html

Not to disagree with Ken, but if the worker are carrying SMS cell phones or pagers with an email address. Something like AAAEEENNNN@mymobileservice.com where AAA is area code EEE is exchange and NNNN is number then you could use the 1761-ENI or I believe the 1756-EWEB to send email messages to them. I have done this with the 1761-ENI but never the 1756 product. This of course assumes you have an SMTP server available to your plc network.

Check out http://www.tixi.com. We have communication controllers (SMS, Fax, Email, Pger) for many PLCs, even for Allen-Bradley Pico/GFX devices. Our US represantative is California Motor Controls Inc.: http://www.tixi.us

We do it with the EWEB. I have never done it with the ENI

The 1761-ENI setup utility lets you enter your email address list and then trigger messages. The message sends the pre-determined data to the pre-entered address. Sound similiar to the EWEB?

It does not have the list/node email addresses like you configure in the ENI Utility. With the EWEB addresses are configured in the ladder. I went to Rockwell Knowledge Base to link an example since I always compact the samples to the point they are hard to use as a learning tool and apparently this feature has been added to the ENBT also. I was unaware of this but HERE is an example that is fairly easy to follow. The ENBT must be version 3.x or higher

Yeah, it can be done with an ENBT/EWEB. We use it to send messages to email/sms when a load of oil contains to much water in it. Works really great. Way easier then using a modem
