The latest KB does not have any articles on this. Usually ODBC erros indicate some permission problem. Are you logged in on an account with Administrator rights ? Most similar ODBC error articles in the KB mention the errors only to occur on non-English windows versions. What Windows version are you running?

Check the V7.0 KB, there is a few errors to do with explorer and ODBC, i typed it "ODBC explorer" and it listed a good few, most suggest cheking the DSN's for ODBC or reinstalling ODBC drivers etc.

there is no CitectDB directory on the installation CD, I did reinstall Citect regardless but the problem still persists

Check the latest Citect Knowledgebase articles, not specific to your error but may be of help as all ODBC and explorer related: Q2321 Q2184 Q2178 Q2769 Q3183

You get a free upgrade from V7.0 to V7.1, even if you key is for 7.0. maybe just upgrade and that might take care of the problem.
