  1. I was talking to one our IP guys about this as I am on the list to have my laptop replace/up graded. The company I work for has told Dell that if we can't get the lap tops with XP, we will not be buying there lap tops. I guess Dell will still sell us what we want for now anyway. Racer
  2. I have some fan control panels that have 4 Power Flex drives in each of them. My question is this. Is there a way to like all 4 to one com line so I can walk up to them and plug in and see all 4? I know the 40 and 70 are build more for networking. This is more of a convenience thing. Thanks. Racer
  3. Power Flex 4 Drives

I am using Drive Exec. and the adapter/modem from AB to set up there drives. I'm just getting started with Drive Exec. but have been using the drives for some time. Just never set them up with the lap top. I have a bunch of Reliance MD 60 drives as well but that takes some other software looks like the same drive just in a different case. The software will connect but it tells me it don't support this device. Thanks for the input racer
  4. Thanks Bob. I have limited experience with panel builder 32 but HA I get payed by the Hr. LOL I just may learn something new and get payed for it. There isn't a lot of fancy stuff on the 900 so that should help. Racer
  5. Will the new software, FT View Studio for Machine Edition , convert the program from the PV 900 pn 2711-t9c8x to a new PV plus 1000 with a pn of 2711-T10C20. Or will it take some hours to convert the program and adjust the screens? Thanks racer
  6. I'm kinda green but wouldn't a scale command do the same thing? Input low to input high converted to "0" to "5" moved to an f8 file? Did I miss something? I'll put my hand back down now and pay attention to the teachers. Racer
  7. I need to get a SLC 5/04 and a Panelview 900 onto our Ethernet/IP system so that I can set up some data logging. I have found the module made by Prosoft, the MVI46-DFNT. I've down loaded the information off of there web site and skimmed through it but it's a over my experience level. Has anyone use one of these and if so how much of a problem is it to get running? My other option is to change out the prosesser and the panelview to a SLC5/05 and a Panelview 1000 with the Ethernet/IP built in. Racer
  8. If I change the Processor out to the 5/05 W/ Ethernet/IP, I would need to change the Panelview also. Right? the 5/05 is around $5000, the Panelview 1000 would be around $3500. The card from Prosoft is about $2000. Is the cut-out for the 900 and the 1000 the same size? Seems to me, If the card would work, that would be the most cost effective way to go. I have an integrator I work with the isn't a fan of the NETENI cards. Told me not to use them if I don't have to. He's out of the country right now so I can't ask him, or I should say he hasn't gotten back to me. racer
  9. JAK, The PV is a 2711-T9C8X. I guess the question I should also ask is, how is ProSofts tech support? If I'm going to try this am I going to be able to find someone to walk me through the process of getting it running? thanks for the feed back. Racer
  10. I have been using this box from RTA. It would really well and is easy to set up. http://www.rtaautomation.com/ethernetip/435nba2/ I can't help you out with your problem but thought the info would. Marv
  11. I have been asked to see if there is some type of RF ID system out there that I could use with a ML1200. The application is on out card board die cutter system. The engineer would like to place an RF ID tag on the dies and have it read into a ML1200 to track the die production and check machine settings to help prevent a crash. We are talking about 30 to 40 different ID tags. Has anyone used an RF system for anything like this? Thanks Marv.
  12. We have a work station that was upgraded to a new box with XP. We have re installed the RSView32 runtime software and had it working as before. When our I.T. installed the iSeries Access for Windows software, It will not run if the RSView32 is running. If iSeries Access for Windows is running and RSView is started the iSeries Access will shut down. Anyone run across this before? Thanks Marv.
  13. LOL, Gerry, I hear ya there. I wasn't even told about the switch until had already been started. I'm thinking it's time to add some hardware and put the PLC on the network and do the logging they are asking for with Plantmetrics. We have it, I'm just vary green using it. I do have a integrator that will help me out. Marv.
  14. One of the tricks I have used on cables is the Velcro from the garden dept at most big box stores. It comes in a roll and is vary cheep. You can cut it to the size you need and works good to keep the cables bundled up.
  15. I have a machine that I would like trend an analog and 2 digital tags at the same time. The analog is the position of an air cylinder and has a range of 500 to 28000. The other 2 points are the outputs that run the valves for the cylinder. These points are digital. Is there a way to set up this on the same trend. Thanks mracer
  16. Great, Thanks Ron. That is going to make the day go much better. Marv.
  17. Rockwell support

Late last night I think I found out what the problem is. In Tech note # 33092 they talk about the ML1100 note being visible. I think I can get some where now. Looks like I will need to type them all in by hand. Racer
  18. Rockwell support

I have had the pleasure of working with Rockwell Tech Support this week. I was on the phone with support for about 2 hrs total already this week As for the support, I think they do a good job but I may have something they have not seen before. I have a new install of PlantMetric that is having a problem seeing a Micrologix 1100. The server was setup by an Integrator and then brought in ,plugged in and started. Plantmetric is seeing a couple of Tags but when I try to browse and add a new tag for a part count or the operator id, it’s like it can’t see the ML1100 or any of its tags. That how my week is going. Sure make the day go fast ,lol Racer
  19. I would like to as the group what my options are for a project I have been asked to look into. On our powder paint line, we have a SLC5/04 and a PanelView 900 using DH+. At the present time we have a PC with RSLinx and RSView running giving them some access to make some adjustments and log some temps. We would like to tie this into our PlantMetrix to track the lines operation. My Question is this, what would be the best way to tie into this PLC for communications? Is there a way that I can set this up so that we can have access at more than 1 point or PC Is there an Ethernet module that I can add to the rack? I’m looking for ideas on this one. Thanks Racer
  20. Bob, That has been brought up too. When I asked the cost that is when I thought I would ask all of you here. Some times the dist. isn't at the cutting edge of whats going on. All of the DH+ and com line stuff is all new to me. I'll get there. It will just take some learning.. Is there any good reading of the subject? DH+, RS Linx, this kind of stuff. Thanks again Racer
  21. I just looked at the file and it is set up for DF1 Full duplex. I need to go out and open it up, but I don't think there is anything plugged in now.
  22. Yes, The PC is on the DH+. We would like to get rid of the PC in that location and have access through the network to other PC. The problem is that if that PC is not started on Monday morning there is no logging of points. The other thing would be to wire all the way to the main computer room with the DH+ and move the RSLinx the the server. at least that what is how I think it would work. Thats about 800 to 1000 ft. Thanks for the input. Racer
  23. I would like to ask for input from the site on this programming problem I have. This is what I am trying to do. I have a bar code reader that sends a string file to st10.0 in a micrologix 1100. In order for the reader to send the next data set, It need to see a “0” in the st10.len bit in the ML1100. I have set up some code to move the data around based of the size of the string. That is if st10.len = 5, it will copy the data to st10:2 (Employee number) This data will be used with Plantmetics to track machine operating data. That is all working. What I am having a problem with is clearing st10.0.len so the next data can be sent and now loosing the first data set. I’m not that informed on how to use a “one shot” relay/contact. I am looking for someone to spark the thought process and get me out of this writer’s block I am in. Thanks everyone I have gained much by reading what you all post. Racer
  24. Thanks Bob, I did get something working right at the end of the day today. I'll take a look at what you have and see how I'm doing. I wound up using a timer with the cop. The the timer DN is the rung higher so the st10 gets reset before it is scanned. seemed to work OK. I could never get the one shot to work right. If i could figure out how to dost it on here I would. Racer
  25. I have tryed to add a snap shot, but I can't seem to get it to work. sorry I understand how to copy the blank data to the st10 file but I'm not sure how to make sure that the data has been moved so I don't over write it too soon.
