The communication between the SLC/05 and the main PLC can be any type of protocal we want, it doesn't have to be a datahighway like DH+. Can you communicate over ethernet between the two?

I am starting a project involving 2 plcs. One (a remote plc) must be a SLC/05, however the other one (main plc) may be a contrologix. The main plc will have 60 Analog I/O and around 300 Digital I/O. Are these two easily compatible over an AB datahighway? The logic between the two is interlocked in both directions. If so, what type of communication protocol would be best?

Hello all: Sean and I have almost completed our DH-485 project. A final question: When you open a new MicroLogix 1000 PLC out of the box, it is set up for DF1 protocol. We know how to change it to DH-485 protocol using a handheld programmer. How do you change it using RSLogix? Basically, that is the final piece of the puzzle. We need to be able to plug the PLC into the PC, and switch it over to DH-485. Also, we need to be able to change the node value. Hello all: A while ago, my partner Sean and I (college students) had posted on the forums for help setting up our DH-485 network. We are trying to use the MSG command between PLCs. Is there a way to use it to turn on/off an output? We have tried a few different techniques, but no success. Is there a trick to it? We have tried sending an integer (N7) from one PLC to another, but this does not work. Under the setup menu, what do we need to put under the following blanks: ----------------- Write PLC: This Controller: Data Table Address____________ Size____________ Target Device: Data Table Address____________ Local Node Address___ (is this the node that we want to send the value to? ----------------- Read PLC: This Controller: Data Table Address____________ Size____________ Target Device: Data Table Address____________ Local Node Address___ (what would this be for?) ----------------- Please let us know what we should try, or possibly, post a link to some sample code on the web. Hello all. My partner Sean and I are college students working on a PLC networking project. We are new to the forums, so please pardon any simple questions or mistakes we may make. To fulfill requirements for an R&D class, we have to network 3 AB MicroLogix 1000 PLCs across a DH-485 network using AIC+ network modules. We desperately need help, as we have hit a stopping point. First, we wired the network using a network cable with four wires inside. The cable runs across 4 AIC+ modules, and has the 5th and 6th pin connected on either side to utilize the terminal resistor inside, as well as grounding one side via the first and second pins. Next, we have configured a PLC to run on the DH-485 protocol using the following technique: Project ==> Channel Config & selected the radio button for DH-485. We set the node address at 1. Unfortunately, this is where we are stuck. When we connect as shown, we get no response from the PLC. PC ===(9 pin serial cable)=== AIC+ ===(4 wire network cable)=== AIC+ ===(8 pin HHP Cable)=== First PLC. Please let us know what we are doing wrong, and keep in mind that we are novices.
