  1. I have a PanelView 1000 catalog number 2711-K10G3x, Series E, FRN 4.48 that is displaying the number 60 and ERROR. When I look this up in the manual it says "CPU could not execute code". This PanelView has been in service about 1 month as it was a repair/exchange from Allen Bradley. I am told that this is the third time this has happened since it was put in. To clear and put it back in operation requires a power cycle. Anyone have an idea as to what is going on? Should i look at sending this unit back? Thanks for any help. Tom
  2. Clueless - please help!

First off you should definately read the manual for RSLOGIX 500 available from Allen Bradley website.
  3. Hi all. I have been around AB plc's for a short time but mainly with stand alone machines. I recently started at a place where most of the machines have HMIs connected. Can the RS-232/DF1 port splitter be used to connect a computer to the plc to monitor online? Anyone ever used one of them before. I am trying to figure if this little device would be worth getting and keeping with our computer. Not sure if I explained myself ok so if you have any questions please ask. I have been browsing this site for awhile and am amazed at all the great help and information that is presented. Keep up the great work. Thanks
  4. PanelView 1000 fault

Yes that is the screen that is coming up. However, the program has been downloaded and running. This event happens will running and as I am told is not the first time since this unit has been changed. I can not personally verify any other time other then this last one when I reset the unit. Tom
  5. I got a great laugh out of this statement. Seriously though that is a good suggestion.
  6. RSVIEW 32 VBA

Issue has been resolved. In the VBA project there were 3 user forms that were left over from a previous version of this project. They were not being used. When I deleted them I could then compile the project and save with no issues. Tom
  7. As the title and description state I am getting this error. The computer where the RSVIEW32 software resides was recently "updated" by the IT department with Microsoft recommended updates and also Excel was installed. The upates and Excel were backed off in an attempt to fix this problem but it continues. The updates and Excel were reinstalled. My VBA project has about 40 subroutines in it that have been working fine. I can step into them and run them with no issues seen. When I go to the DEBUG tab and hit "compile" I then get the error. Typically in the past when I get an error it highlights the offending line of code. This does not. I am trying to add another subroutine but I believe this compile issues is preventing a save of the VBA project. I confirm this by going to the folder where the VBA code is saved and see that there is an earlier date in the file, not the day I am trying to save it. I am not a VBA expert so any help is welcome. If any more information is needed let me know. Tom
  8. C200H help

Jay, Sorry it took me a few days to get back to the forum. Enjoying a long weekend, now back to work. Thanks for helping me on this. I see now I will have to be prepared for if/when this error happens again. Tom
  9. C200H help

So this is an extension of this topic from a few days ago: http://forums.mrplc.com/index.php?showtopic=21421 The machine manufacture sent me CX-Programmer with a couple of cables. I installed the software and used their instructions to do the following setup. In the software I started a new project and made the following changes under the CHANGE PLC box: I set the device to C200H and the CPU type to CPU 03. I was instructed to turn SW3 and SW4 on the Host Line Unit to 0 to set the baud to 19200. SW1 is 0 and SW2 is 1 to set the node to 1. Back in the CHANGE PLC box I leave the NETWORK TYPE as sysmac way and under the SETTINGS tab set the Host Link Unit number to 1 and then under the DRIVER tab set the baud to 19200 and Comm port to 1. Navigate back to the main window, click on the PLC tab and then WORK ONLINE. I get an error saying something about not being able to connect to the PLC. I try a couple or more times and then swithc to the other cable and after trying numerous times it finally connects to the PLC. I transfer the program and scroll down throught the logic while online. All of a sudden I get a communication error and now no matter what I do, the computer will not connect to the PLC. Any ideas as to what is going on with this? Also the reason for all this is because a couple of weeks ago the PLC had the ERROR LED lit and I am trying to determine why. The machine currently will run with no issues but we are concerned we have not found the reason for the ERROR LED being on and want to figure out why so it does not come back to bite us later. Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appereciated. Thanks Tom
  10. C200H help

Ok so I am making progress. I verified all switch settings and BINGO was able to connect to the PLC. I transfered the program from the PLC and see on the left side there is an ERROR LOG with a small red X. I see that this indicates that the error logging is disabled. So now I am trying to determine how to set this up. According to help file I should be able to check the LOG Enable. This option seems to already be checked as enabled but is "grayed" out so you can no do anything with it. Any ideas on how to get this set up to log errors? I will also continue to read through manuals to and figure out. Again thanks for all the help. Tom
  11. C200H help

Jay, Thank you for helping me with this. I was relying on information from the machine builder and they told me they have since quit using Omron so maybe their support for this is out of practice. The machine did not run when the Error LED was lit. It has been running fine for a week now with no other instances of the error. I would like to figure out though what casued the error so we can limit any down time in the future. When you say SW3 on the back of the Host Link unit I am asuming I have to remove the unit to access right? If so can I do this with power on or would it be better to power down first? Also once I get connected is there some sort of fault log to be able to look back at? If not then I will have to wait for the problem to arise again. Thanks for your help. Tom
  12. LSS software help

Please keep in mind this is my first attempt at doing anything with an Omron PLC. I have an older C200H CPU03 that I am trying to access. I have downloaded the LSS software from the Omron download section here at MRPLC. I have copied the files to 2 floppies and labeled them as shown. Where I am having difficulty is I open the folder on the floppy and click on the INSTALL file. A screen comes up saying SYSMATE-LSS. Checking system configuration. Please Wait..... This is where it is now. Does not do anything else. Can anybody offer some guidence to a complete Omron novice? Thanks Tom
  13. LSS software help

Thank you for the help. Just to provide a little bit more informaiton the Omron PLC has a couple of times now just shut the machine down with a solid ERROR led and I am trying to figure out why. I have a couple of old floppies that I was told contain the program. My hope was to get the software and attempt to figure out why this is bringing up an error. From the manual I was reading there seems to be an error code set in the PLC that will explain the reason for shutting down. Again thanks for the replies. Tom
  14. I recently updated RSLOGIX 500 to the latest version, 8.30. On the same computer I am running an RSVIEW 32 project. RSVIEW 32 is version 7.50. When I am navigating through the RSVIEW 32 project by bringing up different trends, etc, I am now getting a pop up window where it looks like RSLOGIX 500 version 8.30 is attempting to install. It goes through this and then a message comes up that says "Error 1706 no valid source could be found for product RSLOGIX 500 english 8.30. The windows installer cannot continue." It did not do this before the upgrade and RSLOGIX 500 8.30 is installed, activated, and will run. Anyone see this before and have an idea as to what is going on and how to fix? I was in contact with support and they suggested some conflict with RSVIEW 32 but that is at its latest version so I am stumped. Thanks for any help. Tom
  15. RSLOGIX 500 8.30

This is what I did. Uninstall and then reinstall RSLOGIX 500. It seems to be behaving better now. Thanks for the reply. Tom
  16. RSLOGIX 500 8.30

I downloaded this update right from Rockwell. I could uninstall and install again if that is what I have to do. Maybe someone else has an idea. Thanks for the suggestion. Tom
  17. Upgrade

I am sure my situation is not new to most, that's the reason I would like some input from others on how to proceed. Some backround information: I work in a food manufacturing facitlity. Currently we have a small amount of processors networked via a Controllogix bridge with an ethernet module and a DHRIO module. On this DH+ network there are basically 3 nodes I need to be concerned with regarding the near future. Node 1 is CIP (clean in place) 1 system. Node 2 is CIP (clean in place) 2 system. Node 3 is a silo monitoring system. The silo monitoring system is also passing data to an RSVIEW32 application. Now what happens is I get alot of questions of the variety "Can you do.........." or "Can...... be done". Realizing the nature of this facility, nothing is ever an easy task. The layout alone presents many problems with routing wires, cables and the like, not to mention the actual location of everything. Current question I have been asked is to add some I/O to the CIP1 system. This would include VFD, as well as some flow meters and maybe some other I/O that has not been defined yet. The processer (5/04) is located some distance from the location of the desired new I/O. I have started doing some light reading regarding remote I/O and this is were I would like some input. Does it make sense to utilize the 1747-SN and 1747-ASB modules to install remote racks? Or would it be better in the long run to upgrade to a Contollogix based system thereby using remote I/O with that system. I have not used remote I/O in the SLC platform and used it for a couple of very small projects with a Contrologix processer. I do not want to recommend the SLC based remote I/O if it were to become obselete in the near future. I also do not have an unlimited budget so that is a concern. I would like to someday integrate all the above nodes but realize it might take a few years to get that accomplished. I realize I may have used vague or general terms in this post. If there are any questions I would be glad to answer to help the flow of information. So with that said, what would be the best way to proceed? Thanks in advance of any ideas. Tom
  18. Upgrade

Ken and Paul, Much thanks for all the information. It is nice to be able to utilize someone's vast epxerience and knowledge. Right now I am leaning toward a Controllogix system where I will install this in a location previously identified for remote I/O. The thought here is I eliminate some of the remote components and still access the 5/04 via the DH+ network. I wil then be able to in the future migrate that to the full Controllogix upgrade if that is what is desired. Also this location affords the opportunity to pick up a fair amount of additional I/O in the future to upgrade some other processes. Interesting, as the price quotes come in and I change the sytem around, the price difference between using the 1747-SN /1794-ASB modules for just adding Flex I/O to the 5/04 processer and then comparing that to a Contollogix upgrade, the prices get in the ball park where I think I can sell them on the Controllogix plan. Again thanks for all the information. It really helps. Tom
  19. Upgrade

If I go with a Controllogix migration upgrade what are the pros and cons to Flex I/O vs Point I/O for remote I/O? Thanks Tom
  20. Upgrade

I had to read this a couple of times to digest all the information. Thank you for all the input. I have some requests for quotes out with a couple of ways to go. One interesting (read frustrating) thing is when my company gets a quote from an outside source to do a large PLC based project it seems they just rubber stamp it with no real thought. When I am asked to get prices / look into the feasibiltiy of something I get micro managed to death. With this current question I am trying to do it as economical as possible but with an eye towards the future for upgrades. Not an easy task for sure. I will continue to explore options. Again thanks for the advice Tom
  21. Upgrade

Thanks for the input. We currently do not have a Controllogix migration plan. This is an area I have been trying to explore with my company. However when I get price quotes for some of the ideas that they come up with I get what I like to call "Deer caught in the headlight" look and then asked if it can be done cheaper. Sure it can be done cheaper but then what happens is I get stuck later done the road when asked if I can now add ........... and can't due to limitations of previous modifications. I am trying to come up with a master plan and would like it to include a Controllogix migration. Again thanks for the ideas. I will investigate more. Tom
  22. Best way to..

Paul, thanks for the reply. I believe that the system they are using here has the product names in stored in the Panelview and they are selected by the operator. I will have to confrim this for sure but if so then that eliminates the possibility of spelling errors. I may end up using the compare instruction for my requirements. With the 15 or so product names I am really only concerned with 2 of them. For example if product is A then temperature is X if product is B then temperature is Y for all other products temperature is Z. So possible this is the route I will try. However I have been moved to another direction for a few days so I will have to revist this at a later date. Again thanks for the replies. Tom
  23. I have an existing Allen Bradley 5/04 connected to a Panelview 1000. The system is a monitor of a group of vessels. The product in the vessel in user inputted via the Panelview 1000 and is addressed in the PLC as N13:xx. What I would like to do is determine what product is in the vessel and set a parameter in the PLC based on it. So for example if I have SHERBET in a vessel, I can go to N13 and see this data: radix is ASCII N13:10 = SH N13:11 = ER N13:12 = BE N13:13 = T<space> N13:14 = <space, space> radix is DECIMAL N13:10 = 21320 N13:11 = 17746 N13:12 = 16965 N13:13 = 21536 N13:14 = 8224 What would be the best way to evaluate the product name? Using the ASCII, Decimal, or maybe even the Binary data of the product name? My first thought was to add the Decimal values together and then compare that to known values to determine what is in the vessel. Example: If vessel 1 product is SHERBET then temp value is A otherwise temp value is B Anyone have any thoughts or ideas as to the best way to do this? Thanks for any ideas Tom
  24. Best way to..

First off thanks for the replies. The product names are addressed as N13:xx in the Panelview with the data type as character array. There is aproximately 15 different product names for 7 vessels. Currently there is no string file (ST) in the PLC program and as far as I can see the product name addresses are not being used elsewhere in the program. I will create the ST file and experiment with that. Thanks again Tom
  25. RSVIEW32 APPCRASH

I have resolved the issue. The computer that is running the RSVIEW32 project is a remote computer where I use a Remote Desktop Connection to log into it. I opened up the remote desktop connection edit screen and under Local Resources tab there is a line that says "Choose the devices and resources that you want to use in your remote session". Below that there is options for clipboard and printers. The printers option was unchecked and I know in the past it was selected so I again selected it and gave it another try. I could now print with no issues. Maybe this will help someone in the future. Tom
