The default application will have 1 file each of binary, integer, timers, counters, floats, and control and each file will have one element. But the size of these files (max of 1000 elements) and the number of files (996 user defined) are configured in the program you download. Other file types available are ASCII, BCD, Message, String, PID, and BlockTransfer. Best thing to do is examine the program by uploading or going online with the processor. You can then examine the configuration. If you need to add files, it can only be done offline and then downloaded to the processor. The most popular s/w is A-B's RSlogix 5 but there are a few others available.

Hi again, Regarding these default file-types, how do I address them? Which other programming softwares are available, I know about RSLOGIX 5 but it's awfully expensive (we only need to connect a HMI and test configuration and different file-types). How much does these programming softwares cost? Thanks for all your help!

Quickly I thought of TopDoc ( http://www.softplc.com/oldtopdoc.php ) but its still in the $2800 USD range. I see licenses for RSLogix 5 come up on Ebay, you may want to check there. Its hard to justify spending that kind of money unless you have PLC5 projects coming up. If its just for training, you may want to consider Automation Direct, A-Bs Pico line, Siemens Logo line, etc. These have software costs that are very inexpensive or even free.

Hi, OK, thanks for the information about TOPDoc. There is no cheaper alternatives? We are not doing a project, we are trying to help a customer that has bought one of our HMI's. So - Regarding these default file-types, how do I address them? Best regards
