How to setup communication between PLC-5/15 and CLX through 1756-DHRIO series C (using DH+ connection)? Any idea or suggestion? Thank you. James

To read from the Plc5 to Controllogix, create a message instruction. The Message Type will be PLC5 Typed Read, the source element will be whatever you want to read in PLC5 format, length will be however many elements you wish to read, and the destination is wherever you want to put it in Controllogix format. For your path lets say the processor is in slot zero, the DHRIO card is in slot 1 and the address of the PLC5 is 12. Your path would be 1,1,2,8#12. The first “1” tells it to go onto the backplane, the second “1” tells it to go to slot 1, the “2” tells it to go out on port 1 of the DHRIO, and the “8#12” tell it which address to go to. This is in Octal that is why there is a 8# before the address. If you wanted to use port 2 of the DHRIO module you would put a 3 in place of the 2. Writing to the Plc5 from the Controllogix is pretty much the same except you do a PLC5 Typed Write and swap the source and destination. To have the PLC5 initiate the message, you must go to Logic>Map PLC/SLC messages and map a number to the Controllogix tag so you can use PLC5 addressing to specify tags in the Controllogix. Not sure about the communication details for a PLC5 since I have only done this with Micrologix but one of our PLC5 experts can probably chime in and help you out from the PLC5 end.
