You need to get a 1747-OS401 upgrade module from your A-B distributor. It looks just like a backup EEPROM module but it contains the firmware upgrade code. I got some of these a couple years ago, and they were FREE

If you got anything free from Allen-Bradley then you are a lucky man.

Not really.. As a courtesy to their valued customers, they give out an invoice free-of-charge with every order. It usually a big one too :) As far as the firmware upgrade, I was pretty surprised myself, but I didn't get the feeling that our salesman was "doing us a favor".. I think it is just standard policy that they give these out!

Pretty much standard as far as I know. I have always found Allen Bradley to be very helpful when it comes to product support

I don't mean to rain on the parade, but firmware upgrades to SLC processors are chargeable items. There's no standard Company policy to provide these at no charge, though it is a fairly common practice. One firmware module for an SLC will upgrade an unlimited number of controllers. Most A-B distributors and offices have them and will generally help you out if you need a controller upgraded. Newer controllers like ControlLogix include firmware updates as part of the normal support contract.
