  1. Yes I used counter traps for just an occation, it will prove the code one way or the other.
  2. Histogram in logix 500

Do you have terminating resistors on both ends of your network? If not you will get a lot of errors depending on the noise level.
  3. Rs logix versions

I have 6.3 and it opened just fine.
  4. If you are planing to use the same data base for 2 PC's then it will not work. The first pc that loads the code is dedicated to that data base. The 2nd pc will have a error when you try to load RSView. I have to RSView32 stations networked with ethernet and I tried loading the remote pc then the one that has the data base on it this did not work either. If you are just wanting to put a video splitter to use an additional monitor and using it for monitoring only that will work just fine.
  5. Disable or Remove forces

I agree yanking all forces without investigating why they are there can be a dangerous thing. I also agree that jumpers with a ALWAYS_ON bit is a safer way to do things. I do not work in an enviroment that would alot us enough downtime to fix every problem on the spot. If they can jump around it to get the machine running then that is what they have to do. Anyone with access to the edit mode has their own Always_On / Always_Off bit, this way we know who put it there and it is easier to find out why. If I was to program pages for every motor in my plants I would need 100 screens or more so that is not an option. I have however designed screens for the electricians to toggle on/off motor contactors for designated motors. I don't know about you but I am glad to give some control to the shift electricians that way I get to spend some time at night with my wife and family ergo I am not called in as much.
  6. CAD drawings

Allen-Bradley has scaled auto cad drawings for their products but you must download a program that works inside the auto cad enviroment and have an online connection to use it.
  7. PLC - Control Panels

I think a little more info would be nice but from what I have seen of what I believe is simular it is for a lap top that has the assembly language programming software. If you have the software great but otherwise it does little good. Most OEm companies never give the source code to the customer.
  8. When I was in college PLC control was pretty new to most of the world. Static logic and Basic PC controls was the norm. I have sent many technicans and electricians to PLC class over the years but most of them found that hands on exprience is the best way to learn. I told them that before they left for the classes but who am I to deny anyone schooling of any kind.
  9. FREE Download! Automated Manufacturing Systems; PLCs Book This book has some information that you might be looking for you can find it on the home page of this site. I don't know of a free site that would be any better than this one for finding that type of information. I have been doing integration for 25 years and for the most part it has been a learn as you go process. I have been fortunate enough to work with some very good engineers, that took the time to help me. If you are designing systems by yourself google search engine has a lot of good links where people share their exprience. I use it myself as there is always something new that a customer wants or new technology that I want to use. Also you distributor is a good source of information.
  10. AB transfer problem

Online edits are only SLC503 and higher. I would think as mentioned that there may have been a program burned to the eeprom and it is loading from there. When you make changes burn it to the eeprom before exiting.
  11. Firmware for SLC5/04

If you got anything free from Allen-Bradley then you are a lucky man.
  12. directlogic plc

I have found over the years you get what you pay for. My exprience with Automation Direct is it is cheap and with a little patience it will do what you need but it is fragile and the year warranty is a year for a reason becuase that is about as long as it runs without replacement parts. I admit is has been a few years since I used it so maybe the quality is better. At that time I found the programming software very crude and not very user friendly that is why I said with a little paitence it will do what you need.
  13. OverTime Pay Questions for everyone

As far as overtime I get paid....no attention that is! My average work week is 40+ hours and I am continuos call in because our maintenace staff leaves something to be desired. Lately I have been on a project in Mexico. Now if you have ever worked in Mexico you know that everything is tomorrow or manana which ever you prefer. A 10 day startup turned into a 2 month start up because of so many hydraulic problems. So after I convience them that it is not electrical (I am a Controls Engineer) and I point them to a hydraulic issue they talk about it for a few hours go to lunch which is at 2PM come back scratch their heads and say we will fix it tomorrow. All this leads to many hours of sitting and waiting. My company gets paid well for all the hours I work but I am on salary which means anything over 40 hours is a freeby. I know what your thinking... does he not get comp time? Well maybe once in a blue moon I may get a day off with pay but they really act like they are going out of their way to do you a favor. Disgruntled you may ask? Heck yea! But such is the life of a Controls/Electrical Engineer in PA.
  14. Recomendations for a new laptop

I am using a Dell 610D, I run RS Logix 5, 5oo, Control Logix, RS View32 Works, most all of Rockwell software packages. I also run Wonderware, Auto Cad 2004, VB.Net and many other softwares. I have not had any trouble with the laptop, it is not to expensive but I do suggest you upgrade to atleast 1 gig of ram. The laptop is light weight and easy to lug through airports as it has been with me on my trips to Europe and Mexico. I highly recomend it.
  15. We have a 3 level roller bed conveyor system for material handling. We used all A-B control products with Control Logix 5550 PLCs. We used Panel View Plus HMI the problem we have is when we programmed the keys for momentary they stayed maintaned. Rockwell said it was a known problem and they sent us the patch but it did not fix the problem. So I programmed timers to clear any 1 that was on for more than 2 seconds. This is a pain in the behind for many reasons but the biggest is I should not have to do it. Then a new version came out of the at best fussy software RSView Enterprise. Well it is a pain in the butt to install the software because you have to upgrade each Panel View's firmware first and we have 20 of them. It would be worth the effort to do this if I was sure the newer version of the software would work. Has anyone else exprienced this problem? If so how did you fix it and what version of the software did you use?
