Yes you will need a 1203-USB or the older serial 22-??????

The 1203 talks RS-485 and the 1746-UIC talks DH-485, to best of my knowledge.

1203-USB is what you need for using the DSI port. The old model was the 1203-SSS. If the drive is on a CIP network that RSLinx supports then just use CCW to connect via the network

thanks Guys for the reply's @VFD Guy drive is using only using RS485 serial comms, is there a parameter, I can set an IP address & communicate over ethernet , bearing in mind its not a recent drive i would say the drive I'm dealing with is 10 - 15 years old now ?

The PF40 would need to have a 22-COMM-E installed to be able to use ethernet, the plug on the VSD is DSI ie RS485 not ethernet.

This is correct. If no 22 comm module installed then you need a 1203-usb
