Posted 1 Sep 2010 Is there an easy way to synchronize two ultra 3000 drives? The application requires a device to be raised up 12 inches. There is a linear screw on each end. They must go up at the same rate so the device doesn't get in a bind. It can be a standalone idea or it has a 5/02 processor in a plc that I can use also. Any Ideas guys? Posted 1 Sep 2010 (edited) Yes! You can use the gearing function built into the drive with a 1:1 gear ratio. The pulse output of one drive (master) will need to be wired into the pulse input of the other (slave). Then program the slave drive to run in gear mode. When you start the drives the slave will follow the master at the same speed, etc.. Edited 1 Sep 2010 by noxcuses
Posted 2 Sep 2010 A couple ways. You can use dual encoders and configure one drive to run in "follower" mode. This gives you the tightest control. You can also use the "tried and true" load sharing method...configure the slave drive to operate in current/torque follower mode and configure an analog output to reflect the appropriate feedback. Posted 3 Sep 2010 If you use the master / follower method, be sure to interlock them so that the master will stop if the slave faults (not ready). If the master faults, it should be okay, since it will stop sending pulses to the follower so it should stop also.
