Penko Mitev

Hi from me

5 posts in this topic

Hello guys! I am not sure if you make introductions here, but let me present myself. My name is Penko Mitev, from Plovdiv, Bulgaria(EU ;)). I am 17 years old, student in high maths school(gymnasium). My programming interests started about five years ago when I first started with PHP. Since then, I have worked on my skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript(AJAX), PHP, VB.NET and little C++(it is necessary for school, I don't really like it for my own projects). So, I am a web developer and am developing private projects for companies, but mainly as a paid hobby :). My father owns a company for industrial automation lines manufacture. We work in all branches and our production is not serial, but strongly according to customer needs. You can take a look at the company website if interested. www.kms-e.com. Don't understand it as an ad, because what I aim is to show what sorts of machines we have produced. Unfortunately, I have not had enough time to update the website with recent machines. My interest in PLCs and electrical parts of machines started in a very bizarre way according to my mind. My father has always escaped from Servo-requiring machines and had made assembling ones mainly, frequency-controlled motors, only so that there is no accurate position need. However, a big company came with a need of big production line for a product of theirs and the implementation had a need of four servo motors. We bought Delta PLC from their dealer here in our city and the programmer from that company. The result was that we prolonged the machine with 1,5 months because of the programming. My father was very furious and if until that moments he was saying "you have to study this one day, so I don't pay 3rd parties", this time it was absolutely necessary. For a month maybe, I was fully aware of what LADDER is and started making miracles :). As a result, we sent a machine with broken PLC logic in Greece and I had to fully repair the logic when we visited, and I succeed. The whole company depended on that success, so I didn't lack motivation :). A new whole world opened to me. Furthermore, I started liking his profession and next year I will apply for the technical university which my father has graduated from. So, I have programmed two machines except the Greek one, because there were numerous times when customers had their own guys making electricity, but not anymore. I maybe have 4-5 machines for programming in the next few months. Note that I don't have electrical education, but understand from physics what is enough to make wiring and actually machine boards. This became too long, I hope you have not got frustrated. Excuse any spelling mistake because despite the long period I have been studying English, it will always remain a foreign language :). P.S I will try to get involved in this community because I see specialists here and will try to contribute myself where possible. Wish you a good day guys! Penko

Good luck to you - PLCs are not what they used to be. I remember some years ago Omron released a PLC that could be programmed in C but it did not sell. Also, April from France released a PLC where you could take complete control of the microprocessor. Schneider bought them out and I have not seen them since. I do not know the PLC you used - I mainly use Omron but also Modicon, AB, Mitsubishi, Siemens and anything else the customer wants - if I cannot change them to Omron. The Omron shoe box PLC even has up to 64 bit floating point maths if you are interested. I need it sometimes as 32 bit floating point loses resolution when the numbers get large. Many PLCs also have outputs/cards/drivers for servos etc. Maybe you should have a look there. I understand Omron have some great servo/postion control stuff available in Europe and not elsewhere in the world.

Bob, thanks. I would like to tell you that Delta has the same user interface as Omron. Everything is almost the same, there are just little design improvements so that it is not 100% clear they have stolen it from somewhere. Servo control in Delta is amazing, so I suppose Omron has the same level or higher as a more popular brand. For the current machine we initially mounted Logo, but I found it very hard and we put it away for further, easier machines. So I can say, I have had experience with Delta, Schneider(this will be my first machine, but I made the program for 10 minutes, because I didn't lack anything from Delta), Logo(very hard LADDER for me).

well my take on the issue is the HD not the cpu.... since your talking about streaming data of that size from the had. low access times and low read speeds sound like the problem. my first thought would be to go with a SSD drive, say either the Ocz Agility-EX or Vertex drive. either that your, your talking about processing the effects to the image. which would be cpu bound, a quad core would help alot even more with a SSD. another option is, if that CS version can use Cuda, just upgrade the GPU. since alot of programs are starting to be able to use the CUDA programing to speed up data crunching.

Hello Penko, and welcome to the forums! I have read your post with pleasure, your enthusiasm and drive makes me smile. It is great to read that a young man like you has escaped the tentacles of IT world and has found his way into industrial automation. In my opinion, guys like you are the future leaders in industrial automation. I am sure you can be of great value to this forum and likewise this forums users can be a great value to you. Good luck and see you soon! p.s. I think your English, being a foreign language to you, is way above average!
