can anybody tell me how to get a cheap plc hardware to use with my free rslogix starter program? I just want to practice. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I am a novice.

That's not necessarily so. It depends on what version the OP has. The new free starter software will do the ML1000 and the ML1100 series controllers. see link below. http://www.ab.com/programmablecontrol/plc/.../downloads.html
