While troubleshooting the MAIN transfer conveyor in a plant my jaw hit the floor. SLC 150 running the MAIN conveyor, 100% of this plants material HAS to run down this system. Little to no documention. You all have see this in some form or another I am sure. "It always runs why mess with it?" was the reply that I got from their maintenance supervisor. I am going to be pro-active and at the very minimun pull out the program. I keep finding references to this software none look on the up and up. My local AB rep. said it was not sold by them anymore but he thought it was on the AB website. I searched AB.com with no luck. Anybody know where to get a copy of it. I am not asking to steal or cheat anybody or any company out of anything. I do have the cable that I used 7+ years ago on a Win 3.1 suitcase sorry laptop. Any advice on the this?

The software is a free download from AB. It will run but cannot communicate with the PLC under Win XP. My plant still has (2) SLC 100's w/expansion units and (2) SLC 150's running some small applications. I transfered the PCIS software over to my Vista laptop and can run it through a DOS window to upload and download. The XP laptop was a no-go....

just between you and me, Jeff ... try to make sure that nobody sees you when you mess around with this thing ... just go ahead and upload the program in the dark of night - and then keep a copy of it safe and sound for the day when you'll eventually need it ... reason: SOMEDAY this thing is going to go belly-up ... everyone will swear that "it always worked fine until Jeff started fooling around with it" ... if you have some spare time, you might want to rewrite the code to run on a Micro- or CompactLogix ... with a little preparation, you might get a chance to be the hero someday ... just try not to be the "last guy who touched it" before it dies ...

Old story time: A couple of years ago a customer in Alaska called looking for advice on planning to build a replacement for an SLC-150 controller in case of its eventual failure. To determine exactly which MicroLogix 1500 I/O modules we would need, I asked him to go write down the actual part number on the side of the SLC-150. "I can't read it", was his reply. Was it installed too close to the enclosure wall, or had the label been obscured by dirt or abrasion ? "No, the problem is that it's installed on a compressor and it's shaking so hard that the label is blurry and nobody can read it." And it had been that way for 15 years. The SLC-150 is a stout little controller, but your plan to have a MicroLogix replacement program ready is very sound.

Alaric thank you for the links. I need to work on my search and find on AB.com. I give up what does QFT. stand for? Ron I plan on asking BobLfoot is he would loan me a cloak of invisability. He being a Wizard and all. I do plan on making a weekend trip in probably a night. Guys thanks I just wanted the all the gurus' input on this little project. Is there any pitfalls that I need to watchout for? Once I get the program I will try to post it.

The pcis software is pretty basic stuff. You have to use the F1-F12 function keys to move through the program and the arrow keys on the keyboard to move left, right, and up and down through the rungs. When you first hook up to pull the program out, if I remember correctly. You press F1 (read program /transfer) Then it will say," read program from disk or SLC. Highlight SLC then press enter. It will say "Working" then you can press the escape key it will take you back to the command screen. (All of the function keys with black screen) I'm not sure of the proper function key F1 or F2 will then let you see the actual rungs of programming. You can save the program once you pull it from the SLC. Edited 3 Mar 2008 by splicer480

In my case I run it on XP without any problems. The only thing that I found, is that the conputer has to have a built in serial port, I haven't found a USB - Serial adapter that works.
