5 posts in this topic

Has anyone done modbus over TCP from and FX3U. I have seen some function blocks for Modbus over serial and an FX2N, but I would liek to try and stay on ethernet if posible. Thanks, Chuck

There are Modbus serial modules FX3U-485ADP-MB and FX3U-232ADP-MB for FX3U, but no Modbus/TCP modules. You can get a Modbus TCP module for the Q Series, might want to look at low end Q processors.

You could also check out the Devicemaster UP from Comtrol. It will translate between standard serial and a number of Ethernet protocols including Modbus/TCP. It's a little pricey ($695 list), so you'll want to compare it with the Q series, as Crossbow suggests.

I've just used one of these for a project I was working on and they are very nice to work with. The major benifit being you can broadcast to more that just your PLC, you can do serial tunneling through your network to other devices as well. I would recommend a Comtrol device if you are think of expanding your communications in the future.
