Modicon Nano Software

I have recently bought two old Modicon Nano PLCs on Ebay. I don't have the software (PL7-07) yet, but I am working on making my own programming cable (with premade rs232-rs485 converter). I want to be able to test the communication with the PC and the PLC to determine if the cable works. Anyone got any idea how I can do this without the PL7-07 software?
