  1. Trying to download pl722_v5_dos.exe I keep getting an error - is this file still available? Thanks, Chris W
  2. Oh, I see - then I am basically merging the logic on the PLC to the last known good commented file on the computer. This "merged" file is then saved. Is that what you mean?
  3. Thanks Ok, I just tried a compare on an exact copy of the same file and I get all check marks. Will I get the same thing if I compare an uploaded file to the original on disk or will there be some X marks?
  4. I am trying to upload the programs with all documentation on a DH485 system from a SLC 5/03 and Micrologix 1200. There is no problem uploading the ladder program but a window pops up and asks me for the file name of the offline image. I just click CREATE NEW FILE and it uploads it into RS Logix. Problem is that there are no names, symbols and descriptions. I have the plant computer with the original files but there are a lot of similar file names and I am not sure which one to select. I would like to ensure I upload the latest ladder program to the original .RSS file so that all the rung and contact descriptions match the latest upload. Can someone advise me the correct way to accomplish this? Also, is there a way to store all this information on the processor so that there is no need for the offline image at all? Thanks, Chris
  5. RS Linx for dummies

OK, thanks - do I have this straight? The SLC 500 series and Micrologix series can be eithor setup to communicate with DF1(serial) driver or PIC driver depending on the model number and/or whethor or not the communications method has been changed on the processor through the channel configuration? I think I recall that when there is only on PLC and no other PLC's or Panel View screens then the DF1 driver is used. When there are more then one PLC and a Panel View screen then the PIC driver is used. I guess the PIC driver allows multiple connections? Is that why I always see all the PIC systems connected with a grey box at each PLC or Panel View?
  6. RS Linx for dummies

Great tip, thanks! I always wondered how to do that. I was looking to save it directly in RSlinx and had no idea I had to save it outside RSlinx. Most other software I use allows me to do this kind of saving in the program.
  7. RS Linx for dummies

Thanks - I tried one of the PDF's and it worked great for my micrologix. Would the info you left me also apply to SLC 502, 503, 504 and 505 as well? If not, do you have any info on them? Thanks
  8. I sometimes troubleshoot machines typically with SLC500 PLC's and Micrologix PLC's. I have RS Linx 2.42 and RS Logix 500 6.00. I have the cables to connect my computer to each of the above types of PLC's. I always get really confused when I have to configure RS Linx to communicate with the PLC's. I seem to recall that I eithor use serial communication or some kind of DH communication. Can anyone recommend a book, manual, or other resource where I can learn how to use RS Linx with RS Logix? I tried reading the help files with RS Linx and got lost. Once I get connected, I can troubleshoot the ladder program fine but I have a heck of a time establishing communication. Thanks, Chris W Not sure why this post shows my flag is Afganastan? I am Canadian?
