  1. I was given that same description for Gateway, just no one could ever tell me how to use it. Then I got busy and actually forgot about it until I started looking into the dashboards again.
  2. Trying to get specific, customizable process and production line data to the leaders at their desks so they can keep an "eye" on production when they are on conference calls or in meetings. How do I utilize Gateway?
  3. I've finally got all of our controls into an Ethernet network except for a few micrologix devices. These machines don't really need to be on the network, but it would help me out a bit and complete the work I started. Is there a cheap solution to adapt these to the Ethernet? I might even be able to get DH+ over there if that's needed. Ethernet is preferred. I tried a Lantronix device: UDS1100 (bought 6 of 'em), but it won't work with RSLinx because I couldn't find an EDS file for it. So now I'm looking for another cheap solution. The processors involved are: 4x Micrologix 1200 4x Micrologix 1500
  4. Ethernet - DF1 converter

And if this is right, can I set up a port redirector on our FactoryLink server and on my PC to allow for data logging and program changes?
  5. Ethernet - DF1 converter

I'm new to the whole DF1 communication over Ethernet idea. We've used digiOne's at other plants and we also have digi port servers for our SCADA app. Would you mind walking me through setting one of these up slowly? I didn't go with the digiOne's because since it's such low priority they didn't want to spend the money to make it easy on me. Thanks for the info!
  6. Wire terminating

    Most definetly!
  7. Ok, got a shopping lost for spring... I've got PLCs sitting at home and thought about doing something with those, but that would be hard to manage with the music. And I haven't had too much time...until after Saturday!!! No more school!
  8. Wire terminating

Depending on the gauge, for the "normal" stuff I strip and twist. The smaller stuff gets stripped, twisted, and folded. That's just me here though. Too many people out here can't make connections, and I'm left to troubleshoot their work and redo it anyway. I make sure it gets a good connection the first time.
  9. Yes. Thanks, looks great! I know what I'll be doing next year... What does a setup like this set a person back? I saw the modules on their site, but what all do you need?
  10. Dang, work blocked it... Is there another way I could see it?
  11. ControlLogix Time and Date

I'm working on setting up clock updates. I've read somewhere that the clocks on the PanelViews are more accurate. What if I send the updated time to the PV on S:FS and read it from the PV?
  12. SCADA POLL

What about FactoryLink? What's your opinion on it? I'll possibly be changing our processing application from RSView32 to FactoryLink. Any opinions? I've currently got all the licenses I need for both, but Schreiber's standard is FactoryLink, I need to learn it anyway, and everyone keeps bothering me about it. Thoughts?
  13. Communication Network

I agree completely, and voted ControlNet as well. Even though I'm not very well educated about ControlNet (have troubles with the dang keeper), I've never had an issue. Ethernet a whole other story. I've had multiple issues with DeviceNet as well. Is there some goo training out there to help us with ControlNet?
  14. RSMessenger help

I'm attempting to add Email alarms to our RSView32 project. I didn't see any information in the "Getting Results" guide on how to set up multiple emails with one destination. Is that possible? I've tried several different versions of syntax with no results. I'm able to use a distribution list that's set up globally from home office (which is a pain to get them to edit), I can't seem to get my own local lists to work.
  15. Sabotage

Had similar problems here with a disgruntled ex-maintenance tech who had just enough knowledge about PLCs to f 'em up. Apparently with our loss of an IS manager, home office isn't keeping track of deactivating accounts. Anyone have any experience with RSMACC?
  16. Off subject... Where can I find this? We need DeviceNet help here. I believe all our problems are grounding, but a little help couldn't hurt.
  17. RSMessenger help

I have an event for each alarm, I'm trying to set up one destination with multiple email adresses.
  18. Be able to run on limited sleep for weeks at a time
  19. PLC Law

PLC Law 39 - Create a PM for replacing PLC batterys or an alarm for low battery. PLC Law 40 - If you change addressing, update the backup program. Example for both
  20. MrPLC Shirts

So there aren't shirts yet? I just paid for two at the store. I think it's great, I'd love a shirt/cap/polo/branded laptop/whatever...
  21. Congratulations PdL!

Wow, it'll take quite awhile to reach that! Congratulations!
  22. What is your industry

How do you modify a poll, and what would you suggest?
  23. Don't know if this has been attempted: Members of our maintenance team have collected some good information for troubleshooting our machines. We've had some turnaround, and so there are a bunch of noobs on the floor maintaining the equipment. We also have an extensive list of machine status codes generated for our process excellence team. My thoughts were to use these status tags and match them to a troubleshooting string in a database file. I've got an extra license for RSView32 and thought I'd create an event triggered off a "troubleshooting" button where the VBA would search the database, format the string appropriately (according to the size screen), and send the strings to the processor, which would display them on the PanelView. The plant has all AB processors, all SLC500 and ControlLogix, networked over the Ethernet. I've got all the guts put together for it, just have to pull myself from other projects to finish it. I've got it running on a separate PC as well, so I won't bog down any of the others Any thoughts? 6 days to graduation!
  24. I've got other data logs to add to the RSView32 project, along with a few other items, but I'm not using it as an HMI. In fact, I don't even have a monitor hooked up. I remote into the PC to work with it. The key objective is to have an editable database that any mechanic can add to, that will be displayed on the PanelViews on the floor to serve as quick reminders of past issues.
  25. Battery Low Alarm

Is there a list somewhere on all the information that can be obtained with the GSV command?
