  1. Hi, Why does the industry prefer to use PI rather than PID or PD? Is it because of the reasons below? Please let me know if my theory / finding is wrong. - Easier to tune - Easier to implement - Save time - D is difficult to find - D slow down performance - D creates slight oscillations.
  2. I will have a look tomorrow. About the license... Must I have a license to enable cimplicity to read values? I am doing this for my uni project. I can't afford to get a full version of cimplicity just for my project. Therefore, my cimplicity is the unlicense/ the version that only runs for 2 hours.
  3. By status view, you mean live view? As you can see I was running live view. That is why its reading True/False as well as the value from the input register.
  4. Hi, I can't get Cimplicity to read the point values from the OPC Server for Modbus RTU, anyone got any bright ideas on how to fix this? Please help me thanks =) Its showing "****" as a value.
  5. By the way this is the error that I get when I try to connect my PLC via modbus RTU on CIMPLICITY. "Error: Device found at addres 1 reported error 1 responding to Report Slave ID command. The device will be configured as a GENERIC_PLC but may not work under CIMPLICITY. This error may be reported if your device has lost its configuration (battery failure) or if the device does not support the Report Slave ID command. CIMPLICITY recommends double checking the device configuration using your programming software." This lead me to using PLC - > OPC Modbus RTU Server - > Cimplicity rather than PLC - > Cimplicity. Hope someone can help me thanks =)

  7. Hi, What is the reason behind the 4-20mA current as a standard signal for transferring data? Well for starters, we choose current over voltage because there is less signal / data loss when the signal is being transferred over. How about 4-20mA? Well the purpose of having 4mA as a minimum is to be able to make sure that process actuators are "on" so that SCADA is able to detect any possible fault. Is that right? how about 20mA?
  8. Hi guys, I am having some issues with interfacing cimplicity with AB's Micro830 via RS232 cable with Modbus RTU protocol. I was given the AB Micro830 for my project in Uni. I am meant to implement HMI with it. Anyone who has used AB Micro830 controller to interface with Cimplicity before can you please help me =). After several failing attempts. Someone suggested me to use OPC for Modbus RTU server to connect my AB Micro830. I managed to get it working but I haven't got the OPC Server talk to cimplicity yet =__=" Can someone please help me if you could. Thanks.
  9. From what I can gather Local SCADA consist of a human machine interface, programmable logic controller Wide range SCADA consist of a human machine interface, RTU. -> remote terminal unit. RTU act like a PLC but it provide better communication ie: thru Ethernet and etc. Am I on the right track here.

  11. A book that I read states that SCADA consist of a HMI, PLC and RTU. Can SCADA exist if a system only consist of HMI and PLC? Can PLC act like RTU?
  12. Book says SCADA consist of a HMI, RTU and a PLC. For what I understand is that. RTU = PLC. Why doesn't the book categorise them both into one?
  13. Hi, Can someone please clarify whats the difference between RTU (remote terminal unit) and PLC (programmable logic controller)? As well as HMI & SCADA? I am so confused. Isn't RTU basically PLC? Thanks.
  14. Hi, I found the proper software to make my hmi, however, I am having trouble with making my PLC talk to the software via modbus RTU. Do you guys know any other solutions other than paying ridiculous amount of money to buy the opc to modbus servers? Thanks.
  15. I got this cable (attached) from a friend of mine last week. Do you think its gonna work? I do not have the driver cd tho. As for SCADA, I am really confused at the moment. Must I used a specific SCADA Software to "bridge" my PLC with my PC? Or the cable (attached) is enough? Please enlighten me on this. Can I use software such as redlion / advanced hmi/ labview / citect/ cimplicity? Which one would you recommend? Please let me know thanks. I really appreciate it.
