Download Manager: Which would I prefer...

Hi everyone I noticed that everytime I choose to download files here the browser's default file downloader kicks in. That's fine for files less than 2-3 megabytes in size. But anything more than that I would prefer to use my third-party downloader, which is much faster and more SUITABLE for such big jobs. Do the links here allow for support for such third-party download software... If so, how would I enable it?

gee, i didn't use one in such long time. you must be using dial-up connection... last bigger download was WinXP servicepack and it took some 15-20min with just a browser. a while ago there used to be GetRight. I don't know what is common these days as I don't download much or often. Last one I used was Flash (handy to download whole website).
