GE Motor Wiring

3 posts in this topic

Got a rather interesting question that GE 24 Hour Warranty Support could not answer. Trying to install a three pahse 460 V AC induction motor. GE Model is 5K286JCW135 and STK is N735, It shows wiring diagrams for 240 Line, 460 Start and 460 Run configurations. We have an across the line starter sending power to this motor and don't know which configuration to use Start or Run. Consensus is leaning towards run, but the project engineer left no documentation and GE Industrial website after 30 minutes of searching yielded no helpful data either. Even called 24 service and was not able to get an answer. Any Motor Experts out there know this one?

Two Days after the original need I heard from GE Technical and it did work.

I'm not sure if this is going to help, but.. I remember having a horizontal boring mill with a 20 Hp. spindle motor that had 'start and run' wiring. I believe it started in delta with one contactor and after about 3 seconds another contactor tied the series coils center taps together to change the configuation to wye.
