Omron CJ1 connection to satellite modem

We are trying to use a Beam RST610 satellite modem (beaminfo@beamcomm.net) to allow us to troubleshoot remote PLCs - anywhere in the world. Concept is Cx-Programmer V6 to local modem - dials up sat modem and then connects to PLC. GSM modems and normal modems are fine and achievable but we cannot get any communications using a satellite modem!

I really cannot see any difference although I have not used a sattelite modem before. Is there some difference in the way the modem is set up?
