Talk to a EtherCAT servo drive without adding an axis

2 posts in this topic

I have third party EtherCAT drive and would like to control it without adding an axis in Sysmac Studio.

I want to communicate with this drive using RxDO and PxDO. Is it possible to do this?

The reason to do this is some of the controller does not allow more axis and I want to communicate with extra axis.

Please share your inputs.

It's possible but I wouldn't suggest it. It can be a very daunting task. You would have to understand the State Machine of the EtherCat Motion, Modes of Operation, etc.... You would not be able to use the EtherCat Motion instructions.
