Only need to set up IP address for replacing Panelview Plus?

4 posts in this topic

Hi, guys, we have one production line with 5 Panelview Plus these are connecting to one Logix5000 via Ethernet. We want to change one Panelview Plus 1250 with the same model. We just need to set up IP address on new Panelview Plus as current one and transfer the current program to the new one, then it will work well, right? Thanks a lot.

You will also need to manually open the program file on the PVP, and set that as the default project to run at power on (Startup options). There are other settings (log files, backlight intensity, screen saver) but none are critical to running the program. The new PVP is likely to have newer firmware on it, which is backward compatible with older program files. If you want an exact match, then you will have to install firmware onto the new terminal. The major break point is version 6.0. Older versions (5.0 and older) cannot be installed on the new PVP terminals. If the current terminal is version 6.0 or newer, then you can use the built-in backup/restore utility and an SD card. Page 90 of the user manual http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/2711p-um006_-en-p.pdf I would highly recommend creating a backup SD card of the new PanelView Plus after you get it running well. That will make any replacements in the future much easier.

PanelView Plus HMIs first start with the APA application file. When you build an application in FactoryTalkView ME, it creates an APA application file. When you download the file to the HMI FTViewME creates an MER file. So to migrate an FTViewME application from one HMI to another, you will first need the APA application file. There are A-B Knowledgebase articles on how to upload the MER file out of a HMI and convert it back into the APA application file. Once you open the APA application file, you have to change the HMI type and download the new MER file Once the HMI restarts, after the new MER file is downloaded, go into HMI configuration (press white box in bottom left or right corner on power-up...cannot remember which one of the top of my head). Set the IP address of the HMI. Save the changes and exit (which starts the HMI application). Download the Allen-Bradley manuals for FTViewME and this HMI to get up to speed. Overall, not a simple set the IP and download and go.

Kaiser_will, if you transfer the MER file from one HMI to the other it will work. He's replacing with the same model. No need to rebuild the application, unless you run into firmware issues. If that's the case, then you'll need to upgrade the application from a v5.0 to a v6.0. This is really easy. Just recover the APA or MER file using Application Manager and then hit the download button. You can choose the firmware version in the download menu. Don't worry wendaiyu, it's pretty straight forward.
