Posted 14 Sep 2012 I've found that when using the web interface on the NS10 HMI, the terminal gets slower and slower untill eventialy it stops responding altogether and requires resetting. Is there a way of resetting the terminal using a macro? It can be reset remotly using telnet commands, but this again is a manual operation that is beyonned most of our operators. The only other solution that I came up with was to put the power to the HMI through a relay controlled by an output from the PLC that is then pulsed to reset the screen. Cheers Rob. Posted 14 Sep 2012 I think your brute force approach with the relay will work best. You could use the rising edge of the $SB0 bit from the NS to reset a timer. If $SB0 stops pulsing the timer would time out and reset the HMI.
Posted 14 Sep 2012 I agree with Mendon Systems idea, but I wonder why it needs resetting. I have used NS terminals for many years, and never run into a situation where this was required. Can you provide some details about the overall system?
Posted 15 Sep 2012 We had a similar issue with an NS. Initially our suspicion was that itwas due to using the data-logging feature to CF, but I now wonder if it was due to the web server also being enabled. PMCR, have you had a NS running with web server for long periods of time, whilst also logging to CF? I wonder if it was specific versions that may of experienced these issues? Posted 15 Sep 2012 Interesting thought. I have run the Web Server for long periods of time (I have one running all the time in my office), but not with logging. It will be interesting to see if rob5029 is using either one of those features in his application.
Posted 15 Sep 2012 I had a problem with an NS5 that lost the ability to write to the CF card and froze up a while back. It would run OK until the first write to the data log then froze. It was finally resolved by updating the firmware. Since I did that the NS5 seems to work OK. That system does not use the web server so I'm not sure if that is related to this issue. Posted 17 Sep 2012 I Have 12 of these screens all running the webserver, though only some of them have logging to CF card, they all slow down and crach eventualy. The problem does not seem to be time related, but dependant on the amount the web interfase is used.
Posted 17 Sep 2012 All my screens are NS10 -V2 with firmware version 8.2 I might try updating a couple of them to the latest firmware (8.6?) cheers Rob.
Posted 25 Sep 2012 Hi Rob, We have this problem too on a lot of NS-panels. The panels get slower and slower until they freeze. I have contacted Omron and they are aware of the issue and are working on it. We have upgraded all the panels to firmware 8.5x, but that did not help. I have a vague suspicion that this could be related with Ethernet/IP protocol traffic. May i ask you if you have any EIP traffic running on your network? If so; - Do your network switches have IGMP snooping activated? - Are EIP connections set up multicast or unicast? (or is there explicit messaging going on?).
