Serial RS-232 communication

I try to communicate with a ASCII device by serial communication with an AB CompactLogix L23E. I don't understand why I receive anything, I did all these steps : 1- I made a cable like this : cable 2- I configured the device : ASCII device 3- Then I settled the string to send http://hpics.li/893323c 4- Configured the controler like the device : My link http://hpics.li/099ee48 5- Finally, made this program http://hpics.li/c898901 And the string never change its value. What I've done wrong ?

First thing I do when doing serial communication is use a computer to verify each individual component is working. Setup a serial software and watch the line from the camera. Get a good serial software not hyperterminal. It doesn't show CR or LF you have to know that is what happening. I like to see each character of the packet. I didn't see if you where looking for any start or termination characters. If so make sure you are transmitting them from the camera. Once you have then transmitting from the camera them start trying to communicate from the PC to the PLC.

Doesn't Mode have to be selected for ASCII instead of user in the properties?
