RS5000 rung title display

7 posts in this topic

Hi, I was wondering if there is a setting in 5000 to show the rung titles on the Routine for easier navigation, as per RS5. In RS5 a + (expand) goes beside the rung, and when expanded you can click directly to that rung. Conor

Conor, If you right click on the routine in Rslogix 5000 and select "Browse Logic" or use Ctrl +L it opens a window with the rungs and titles displayed. You can then select the rung and view the rung output, clicking on the output will take you to the that rung in the logic. Is that what you were looking for?

Yeah there are no separate rung titles and rung comments in the 5000. I actually like the advanced diagnostics presentation better in the PLC5 and SLC but you did have to set them up properly. The browse logic does give you similar capabilities just with more clutter and a little less convenience. On the plus side, the 5000 stuff lets you organize your program so much better that I rarely miss the advanced diagnostics and really dont need the browse function much either. On the whole, there are not many things I want back from the pre 5000 days.

The biggest thing I want back is the in-line x-ref. I really miss having a link at the XIC/XIO instruction that takes you directly to that address's OTE

I'll give you that, but cluttering the ladder display with x-ref info all the time when you only need it occasionally is overkilll to me. I'm happy to right-click and choose x-ref whenever i need it.

When I'm browsing the code I'll sometimes turn it off, but when I'm online and trying to track down why something isn't happening I find it extremely useful and convenient. I also would like a x-ref in 5k similar to 5/500 where I can open the x-ref and see all addresses listed in a compact, efficient manner and maybe a column in the tag editor that shows "usage". Anyway, we probably shouldn't hijack this thread into a 5k rant...
