SLC 500 Crashes on edits

6 posts in this topic

We have a SLC 500 (1747-L552, OS501), and when we make edits, from the laptop that last made logic changes, all is well. If we use another laptop, the processor faults, and the program has to be downloaded. One laptop is using RSLinx 2.54 CPR9 SR1, and the other 2.51 CPR7. thanks in advance for your help.

Are you able to go online with the processor to see what caused it to fault, under processor status error tab ? Do this before you clear the fault.

!!!!! VERY IMPORTANT !!!!! What versions of RS Logix 500 are you using for program edits? Check each laptop, there is a very big problem with Ver 7.x. If laptop #1 is running version 7.x, and laptop #2 if running a version OTHER than 7.x this is the problem. (Assuming CPR7 and CPR9 versions of RS Logix 500 are installed this is the cause) The problem is with online edits, as soon as you submitted your online edit, the system crashes and you must re-download right? The only fix is to ensure both laptop #1 and laptop #2 are running the same version of RS Logix 500 (note v7.x introduces the problem, v8.x has the correction..or going back to 6.x), once you have both laptops running the same version do an UPLOAD so you have all current data values, than stop the processor and re-download. You'll be able to do online edits without a problem from there on out. Good luck finding specific tech notes on this problem, Rockwell is very hush-hush with this one. We took down 3 or 4 systems during production because we had a different version of RS Logix 500 than the maintenance staff. Someone made an online edit with the wrong version....KAPUT! Took a few phone calls to tech support for an Engineer to admit this problem. NOTE: I have only seen this as a problem with the 5/04 and 5/05 processors.. Edited by Paullys50

Processor only allows download, as if memory is wiped out, and indicates EEPROM is corrupt. The logic has been running for years, we are adding new jobs, and need to make 'band-aid' edits from time to time.

One laptop is 7.2 the other 7.3, the issue only affects two out of eight processors, four are 552C, three are 552B/C, one is a 551C and one is a 553, all running OS501.
