TI/Siemens Simatic 555-1106 Multiple Comm Ports

2 posts in this topic

I have inherited a TI/Siemens Simatic 555-1106 PLC with a permanently attached PC running Wonderware and the 505 Workshop Programming Software. Right now, there's a single cable going to RS-232 #1 on the 555 for Wonderware. We have to shut Wonderware down (I/O Server) in order to program the 555. Does anyone know if we can run a second cable from COM2 on the PC to RS-232 #2 on the 555 and keep Wonderware up when we want to program the 555? Even if it's possible, is this an ill-advised course of action?

Hi Joe Cody, Yes you can use the RS232 #2 for programming via 505Workshop while RS232 #1 is connected to Wonderware. It is not an ill-advised at all. Otherwise you may consider the new CPU offered by CTI that comes with three (3) communication alternative USB, Serial and Ethernet. You may find more information at http://www.controltechnology.com/ If you want more information, i can roughly share it with you over here upon your request. Regard Chee Ming
