Marking the components in a panel

8 posts in this topic

We already engrave legends for the buttons on our panels and now we are going to start marking the components. A guy in the shop mentioned he saw a system that had an Aluminum channel that attached to the back panel and the legends slid into this channel. Has anyone seen something like this and where I could find out more about it? Thanks Bob ETA...Found this site http://www.partex.co.uk/pspf.html Edited by Bob O

Bob, We use this style tag holder in all of our enclosures to locate the backpanel mounted componets. The part that holds the tag is called Snap Track. This track is held into place by using the adhesive backing or with drive screws. Once the track is in place the tags can be sild or snaped into this track. The tags are 1/2" tall and as long as needed. These snap track tags are thinner than most of the engraved lamacoid tags used for external devices (lights, push buttons, etc.) We purchase theis snap track for our local tag engravers (see attached). Sorry, I do not know who manufactures this snap track but it does come in aluminum and plastic. http://www.rossnoble.com/catalog.pdf http://www.mcsengravers.com/ http://www.ronp.com/ Bud

Thank you. They are talking about placing one long stick across the panel and place the tags in the channel. Are these tags flexable enough to be romved or do they need to slide out the end? Thanks Again, Bob

Correct, Long track across the back panel. Yes, Sometimes you can get them out by prying them out untill they "UN SNAP". This is easier using the plastic track. Sometimes they can only be slid out, usealy when using the aluminum track. When the tag is made correctly (correct height) the tag will snap and hold in place. Too big and you fight to get them in. Too small and they slid back and forth and do not stay aligned under the correct componets. Bud

We have tried a number of methods - at present we are using lexan strips with adhesive labels - non-conductive and easier to read when components are elevated off the backpan. We tried mounting directly on the backpan but our customers requested something easier to read and not obscured by wiring. They also requested non-conductive so that test leads would not inadvertently short out on the label holders.

I really like it also. I am getting some of the snap track and stand-offs to see how that works. Thanks Everyone
