Can anyone guide me on how to choose a PLC?

Hi, This is my first time to start an actual project. I have some basic to intermediate programming background with Seimens PLC in the past but with no work experience. I bought an old bandsaw machine for a very cheap price. It works fine on manual operations but I want to try and test if I can make the fully automatic function back. The current PLC installed in the machine is a Shihlin Electric SEPLC A1-30MR. It look old and the port is not familiar to me. I also have no idea if I can even get the program inside or not. Thus, I plan to replace the old PLC with a new one. Here are my questions. Should I use a PLC or can I just use a digital controller like Logo ? I need to use a loop for counting how many cuts it should do. And how many times the machine should repeat the push of my stock out per cut. What else should I consider when choosing a PLC or digital controller? Thank you in advance. -
Hello Everyone, Our machine with PLC CPU 1214c, was program last year using TIA V13 professional. Now i need to add some Expansion module for additional sequence, but i only have here a TIA V13 basic. When i tried to search the hardware; yes it can be searched, but it will not upload the existing hardware (CPU+ other modules). My question is, if the s7-1200 PLc was programmed by TIA v13 professional , does it can only be edit by TIA v13 professional? is there any chance that the basic version can edit the programmed. Thank you all in advance for your answers...

Hey there Seimens experts, I have a few little S7-200s and need to backup the program on them. What software and cable do I need. I also have a few Micromaster 440s that I can back up too if the cable and software is not to much dollars. Thanks in advance,

Hi I am having a problem with an error/fault code. The fault comes from a lenze drive as an integer. We have a proface HMI monitoring a DBW in the siemens S7 300 that holds the lenze fault code. The PLC comes up with a generic code "lenze drive fault". The proface comes up with the drive code. I would like the PLC to produce a fault description using the lenze fault code in the DBW, instead of the generic one [listed above]. could anyone please help with this problem Thanks Robbo
