  1. Choosing the right software

Is Factory Talk cpr9 sr5 for the FT Service Platform? When I install FTVSME, I get RsLinx Enterprise. Do I also get Factory Talk Administrators Console, and the directory configuration wizard? Whoa, I just noticed there is PVP 400, and PVP-6 400! Maybe they should have tried a different naming scheme. Anyways, we only have PVP 400, and looks like my version isn't being released anymore. Maybe I can find more cheap!
  2. Not many of you will be familiar with my current problem, but for the TL;DR I might have to do a fresh install on 15 computers that were setup incorrectly causing many headaches. The question is that if I do this daunting task how should I go about it. My situation would be 15 stations, each with a fresh install of windows 7(can't remember what version), 15 X Compact Logix L23E, and 15 X Panel View Plus 400. Also any number of Micro Logix 1100B. I want to approach the install in a manner where I do it right (cross all my t's and dot my i's). I have access to software release OCt/2012 so ver20 for RS logix, etc. Assume that all the computers are already set up on a network, each with their own ip address, and the same intention for all the Compact Logix, and PV+400. "Anything is accessible from any computer on the network." What order should I install in? What software should I install? The Class EDU kits that the school have is so full of programs, and the AB software line is so huge, I don't know where to start. Also; is there a good argument for trying to get install software for version 21, instead of version 20? Again, thanks for any help you may provide.
  3. Normally I don't have to log onto FactoryTalk to use RSLogix5000, but the school where I work at has now asked me to upgrade their PLC lab to new PC hardware. They took a brand new system, setup a generic username/password and gave it admin rights. Then they installed all the FactoryTalk software, but did not activate it. They followed by imaging the hard drive to 14 other computers. So I started by going to one of the old PC's in the lab and Rehosting the activation. Followed by using the serial/product I rehosted to activate one of the new pc's. It said the activation was successful, but when I try to start RSL5000 it asks for me to log onto FactoryTalk. I used the username and password (with admin rights) with no such luck. This username/password is the same/has the same privileges as the original PC's in the lab that I am dehosting. Is this a problem that has to do with the FactoryTalk directory location?
  4. Log onto Factory Talk problems

I finally got to talk to RA tech support. Very helpful, pointed me towards so posted fixes for problems nearly the same. They only produced more problems. I don't want to do the complete re-install of everything, so tomorrow I will try more tech support.
  5. Log onto Factory Talk problems

I am having many problems. The success of being able to access RsLogix5000 is being overshadowed by the fact that FTVS ME will not allow me set anything up. I stumbled across this nice post by Ken Roach: Ken Roach Posted 30 January 2008 - 11:25 AM The surest way to render the FactoryTalk directory unusable is to change the computer name after FactoryTalk is installed, or to move the computer onto a Windows Domain after FactoryTalk is installed. RA Technical Support is familiar with the resolution for both of those problems, and is also capable of providing lost FactoryTalk usernames and passwords. I believe the process that the IT tech used to image one pc across 15 others is exactly what Ken is talking about. I am thinking about uninstalling all the Rockwell Software and then installing it back onto the computer, hoping that it will remove the security problems by being a terminal specific instal. Is there a program out there that will remove all the Rockwell products from a PC? The list is huge, and going one by one is an arduous challenge.
  6. Log onto Factory Talk problems

The school does not have FactoryTalk security installed. But I will be reading both those pdfs, so thank you. Funny thing is I tried the "Specify FactoryTalk directory location" and was blocked from changing it because I didn't know the username/password. Also tried the FactoryTalk directory configuration wizard, and was blocked. But I just tried to start the program again and it works, no prompt for username or credentials. Explain that. I also now to get to redo all the PC's ip addresses, make a new driver in rslinx, followed by updating all the controllers to rev20!
  7. Log onto Factory Talk problems

I was thinking that if I rehosted the activation then it is disassociated from the computer and its hardware. So its not the activations fault. If I was to let one of the activations expire on the original lab computers and then re-activate it with a new serial/product number, I do not get a need to log onto FactoryTalk. I am going to try uninstalling all of the Rockwell Software on one of the images and re install it directly instead of relying on the software image from the original.
  8. Log onto Factory Talk problems

Well the FactoryTalk folder is on the computers hard drive. So locally!
  9. I have some quick questions to verify my research. Currently I am stuck with this situation ML1100 setup for ethernet connections PanelView Plus 600 setup for ethernet connections 1) in order to create a PV program for ML1100 I would need to use Panel Builder 32? 2) Will Panel Builder 32 download directly to newer PV's that use Factory talk studio? 3) I read there is an option in Factory Talk studio to transfer older Panel Builder 32 programs into it. Is this for upgrading your PB32 program to match your newly upgraded RS logix 500->5000? Again, thanks to anyone for any help provided.
  10. Panelview Plus 600

I tried with the syntax dmargineau suggested and it failed. Back to what I had and it worked. Why does the it work for you and not me?
  11. Panelview Plus 600

I just tried that, although with a slightly different syntax, and it worked. {::[rv5]B3:1/0} Do I really need the outside parentheses?
  12. Panelview Plus 600

I have attached a picture of what I am seeing. RV2 is my new device shortcut I made. RVa is the folder I created to house all my imported tags. I noticed that the tag Data source is saying [RV2]B3_1_0. Now I created the runtime application and test ran it and there are errors ( that I can barely read). Failed to receive item's ID RV2 B3_1_0 because it doesn't exist on any server
  13. Panelview Plus 600

Using the test application will save me lots of time between rebooting the actual panelview I went to Rslinx enterprise and started over again. Calling it newpro3 this time. Selected the same controller, and copy to runtime. Followed by using the verify button, before selecting ok. Here are the results. Shortcut 'newpro3': - Note: Path to Design device is assigned [MicroLogix Device]. - Note: Path to Runtime device is assigned [MicroLogix Device]. Went through all the regular stuff to see that in the test version the indicator is still coming up in an error state.
  14. Panelview Plus 600

Still having some problems. Here is what I did. Ensuring my controller (ML1100) is online, with my newest program. Loaded a new FTVS file, went to RSLinx Enterprise and set up a new communications. Added a new device shortcut called newpro1 Selected my controller on the right under Design(local) Selected apply on the top left, followed by Copy from design to runtime, followed by ok. Added a multistate indicator. Went to connections and loaded the tag browser. After selecting refresh all, I made a new folder called Robot1, and then opened that folder. On the right side I right clicked and selected Import PLC tags. Gave a RsLinx shortcut name R1 found my RS500 file under PLC database. Selected all tags followed by use symbol name as tag address, then selected ok. Under my new filled folder Robot1 I selected my tag B3_1_0, Start Latch, followed by ok. Made sure to make and define 2 states on the indicator so I can see they are switching. Created a runtime application (5.10 *.mer), then went to the transfer utility. Selected my .mer file, and the panelview plus 400 on the network I will download to, and transferred. Panel View reboots and loads the program but the indicator is automatically in the error state, and will not change when I create the the Start latch memory file through the PLC program. This normally works, but normally I am using the RSlogix5000. The 656 page manual isn't really giving me answers. Does anyone noticed something I did wrong in the set up?
  15. Panelview Plus 600

Thanks everyone, I will be working on it Monday, and will try to do some more educational reading this weekend!
  16. Panelview Plus 600

I am normally using to using Factory Talk Studio ME to create works for RSLogix5000 and downloading to a PV+. I don't get too deep into the programming. I was able to (or I believe I was able) setup communications in FTSME with the ML1100 but I couldn't understand how to do the connections. Normally when using RSL5000 all the tags would show up, but now nothing. Is FTSME capable of creating new programs based on a RSLogix500 program?
  17. I have a PV 600 (2711-T6C2L1) touch that I am trying to connect to a PLC/PC network via ethernet so any pc can download a program to it for any PLC on the network. I am having a problem assigning the PV an ip address. I am new to this process. I just finished adding a Micrologix 1100B to the network and none of the tactics of assigning the controller an ip address are working for me again. The PV 600 setting screen for "communications setup" is only giving me the DH 485 setting (max node, node, and baud). I have a 1747-C11 cable to connect from the PV to a separate PC(not on the network) ethernet connection. I was believing that I could direct connect the two and use RSLinx classic or Factory Talk ME to find it and from there assign an IP. After trying many combinations to no such luck I moved on. Also tried RsLinx classic direct connection of PV ethernet port to separate PC ethernet port to no such luck. I tried by creating a crossover cable option, and straight cable option. I have tried connecting the PV to the network and running bootp server to catch a MAC address from the PV and assign the ip address, but I was getting 3 new MAC addresses and assigned each of them a unique IP and followed by trying to find it in RsLinx classic. Since I am new, I am betting am making a simple mistake. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  18. First time setting up PV 600

Want to thank everyone for your help. Even though I have learned lots, the school has decided to install another PV+400 with Ethernet capabilities.
  19. First time setting up PV 600

Your expert knowledge and answer has made my head spin. I hope to be able to understand all those terms someday. But as of now I have limited options with the leftover equipment the school has, and I am diving into the deep end of AB DH485. If I direct connect the PV600 to the ML1100 "Isolated RS-232/RS-485 combo port" will I be required to direct connect to the PV to upload a new runtime?
  20. First time setting up PV 600

I have connected and downloaded through the ML1100 ethernet port from the RsLogix 500 many times since giving it its IP address. But from what I am reading in AB Literature http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/2711-um014_-en-p.pdf , on page 38, 39 that the two connectors on the back of the 600 touch are as follows #8 DH-485 Communication Port Connects to an SLC or MicroLogix controller, DH-485 network, or Wallmount Power Supply (Cat. No. 1747-NP1). #9 DH-485 Programming Connector Connects to a Personal Computer Interface Converter (Cat. No. 1747-PIC) for transferring applications. Also connects to an SLC programmer, such as the Hand-held Terminal (Cat. No. 1747-PT1). And with this I guess direct connection to our network is impossible.
  21. First time setting up PV 600

The separate PC network card is working. We have a setup that has multiple stations of PC's/CompactLogix L23E/Panel View Plus 400 with each their own IP address. This is at the school where I just finished my industrial controls course. I was hired contract to take older equipment and build a new trainer for future class labs. Worked perfectly considering from that it was built using a ML1100 and therefore RsLogix500 contrary from everything else. As a bonus we had multiple PV 600 touches sitting around and wanted to add one to the project for future options. I was under the idea that it would the same setup as all the PV+400. Just a connection from the PV to the hub through RJ45 connectors.
