Yes, you can. i ever try for update simatic ver. 5.3 with hwupdate newest. it's ok no problem. It's legal, because not need license. Hw update only add new library in your simatic.

Your CPU version in simatic not match with CPU version is older. You must download HW-Update from website siemens then you update your hw-config.

first time you create Function Block (FB) or Function (FC) in Simatic manager (Block List). Open the your FB or FC and create the program in there, don't forget for define the input, output, or input-output. save the program, and ready to call. Remember FB need Data Block (DB), and FC no need. To call FB or FC is very easy. Only use Call FCxxx. Thx

How about the cable?... Check the cable and you must use converter rs232 to rs485. For auto upload, you can use connection serial monodrop, software search the baudrate and device automatic. thx
