  1. Well not quite 2015 but it took a full 24 hours at 50% cpu minimum I contacted tech support when the thing was at 97%. First thing the guy suggested was to cancel it. Strike one. Then he suggested that I copy the CD to the hard drive first. Too Late - Strike 2 Then he suggested that I needed to defrag my hard drive. I could see he had no clue so I called strike 3 and ended the call 2 hours later it was done. Seems your tech note was applicable Ken. Though I have to wonder how on earth it could take 24 hours to install anything, especially a bunch of text files. Thats just ridiculous. I have to install on another machine tomorrow and we will see if it happens again.
  2. Processor Temperature?

They didn't cover the one under it though. Had the strangest comm errors from that proc until we shook the filings out of it. Thats when we found the tape on the one above it. This "Lowest Bidder" stuff drives me crazy.
  3. Processor Temperature?

And then there is the real world where we never know who strayed into areas where they ought not, nor why on earth they were there. Usually a suit giving a tour. But you are right of course. 2 cases I have seen have been a box of spare fuses. One was duct tape from where they where cutting a conduit hole nearby. You would think that they would know better, but alas...
  4. EVRSI to FactoryTalk

What about the laptops that sit on the floor for weeks then suddenly have to be pressed into service with no notice? Do they have to be (or can they be) checked into the server to get activated long enough to travel to a field site to do some work? How does that work in that case? Is the USB dongle the only option in that case?
  5. Processor Temperature?

For the case where someone places a small box or card on top of the CPU blocking the vents
  6. Using PLC5 Using OPC through the RSLinx driver you can directly use the status tags @Revision @Mode and @Status. I am now using Kepware and those special tagnames are invalid. I can figure out a workaround for @Status and @Mode using the "S" registers, but how can I capture @Revision? CLX processors work directly with these tags just fine but the PLC5 and SLC don't. Ideas?
  7. I will be years before I can say that. I can see the info on the PLC5 software, but there are no S registers associated with it like therer is on most of the other info. I looked in RSLinx data monitor and couldn't make out if it was in there or not.
  8. I have long had a problem with the clock update tool where it errors on reading the firmware of the connected devices, but usually it would succeed in setting the time. Or so I thought. I updated to 2.4.2 in the hopes of fixing the firmware reading issue and I still see that problem but also noticed also that the time sent is 7 hours ahead ! Oddly enough that seems like a time zone issue since we are currently GMT -7 here. If I open the processor with Logix5000 and set the time it is done properly and even shows correctly in the clock update tool. So the tool can read properly. But if I sync the device again using the clock update tool, the time will be off by +7 hours. Any Ideas?
  9. Is that what that sentence says? Geez! I'll back down a version and see how that behaves. Any idea about the firmware failure?
  10. Yes, proper time zone is set on this machine. Firmware on the PLC's is v15 - v17 depending on machine. MLX, CLX CPLX and PLC5's too.
  11. I did something like this recently, I found that the data can OBSERVED from a custom coded "User" page, but the data can't be manipulated from there. The User pages are also quite small, allowing only 2K of code per page. The A/B requirements make this worse by requiring a fairly long prefix for each piece of data. You can cram more in there by removing whitespace before uploading. Manipulation of Data can only be done from the built in pages which can't be modified to be more user friendly.
  12. Ping? Even a confirmation that I have used the correct syntax would be helpful at this point. Then I can start a case with Rockwell.
  13. I know this should be a no-brainer, but its the holidays so my brain must not be back from vacation yet. I am creating web pages for an ML1400. I created the files and then tried to export them to inspect the formatting. I click the export button and select a location but it never produces a file. Am I missing a step somewhere? Update: still don't have this working but I made things work from scratch so its not important anymore.

  15. PLC 5/11 reports as 5/20

DH+ over PCMK card in laptop. Yes deleted multiple times, Changed it's address as well. Its kinda interesting. Fortunately its a non critical piece of equipment so I can play with it when I am in the area without serious consequence.
  16. I have a PLC 5/11 that reports to RSLinx as a 5/20. I constructed the program for the 5/11 and when I went to download it I was forced to change the processor type. It shows in RSWho as a 5/20 as well. I was able to run the program I wrote but I am concerned about this misidentification because it does have a different memory size. I looked at the prior version of pgms for this PLC and they ALL show as 5/20 so this has gone on for a long time. I don't have any more 5/11's to see if this one is simply broken so I'll replace it with a 5/30 I have, but is this a common problem and is it fixable?

  18. PLC 5/11 reports as 5/20

I appreciate the offer but even when I pull the battery and connect it still shows as a 5/20. Its not the program at that point.
  19. I have a flowmeter that provides 4-20 output for flow rate and an "odometer" for flow total. There is also a pulse output from this device whose spec is given as .26000 pulses per gallon. I will invert that spec to get 3.486153846 gallons per pulse, but why would a manfufacturer specify a value like that? In this context, how would anyone measure a fraction of a pulse?
  20. Though we did spend a while trying to figure out why the pulses were so intermittent. Only got one every 90 seconds or so. I'll bet it would have been fun to watch our faces when we finally figured it out.
  21. Thats whats on the spec sheet. We just hooked it up and we find that it puts out one pulse every 1000 gallons. Thats what I needed to wind up with anyway so I'm good, but the sheet clearly says .26000 pulses per gallon (with the trailing zeros) . That spec sheet must pertain to a different part of the meter. Or was stuck in there as packing material :)
  22. Turns out this .26 figure converts to a liter per pulse. Dont know why that didnt hit me.
