  1. Point I/O and RSLINX

I fetched my Point IO and did as you suggested. I put in a PRODUCTION network IP address on my desk top, plugged it and the IO into a switch and opened RSLINX. I can see the Point IO under this setup. Your second suggestion is a bit confusing. Are you suggesting I take the IO and desktop computer to the production network and plug into it and try? Or are you saying to take just the IO to the production network? I do not think the problem is with the EDS files as I downloaded and installed it before I started most of this. Also it shows up in RSLINX correctly as I tried above and also when the desktop computer is plugged into corporate network and I have the IO set to a corporate IP address and on that network. As for the Ethernet working I would say I don't think there is any problems but I am no expert. Just to restate: On my desktop which is tied to corporate network, I can open RSLINX and see everything on my production network except the Point IO. Is it possible that something is on the nework that is blocking this IP address from the Point IO? I don't know, I'm confused. Thanks for your help Tom
  2. Point I/O and RSLINX

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them later today as things settle down and I get time. Tom
  3. Point I/O and RSLINX

When I try to ping the IP address of the Point I/O when it is on it is on the production network I get no response. As for accessing the I/O yes I can do it now when it is on the same network ( 192.168.1.xxx) as my desk top but it will eventually be on the 192.168.3.xxx network. I am trying to acess it while it is on the .3 network now for testing purposes. More information regarding the bigger picture: The RSVIEW 32 project right now is not "usable" so to speak. It was developed by an outside vendor. The company I work for decided to take ownership of the project and purchased the software to expand on it. Eventually the project will be moved to a different computer and tied to the production (.3) network. I have no doubt that once I get this new computer up and running with all the correct software I will be able to see everything on the network. That is somewhere down the road a couple of weeks. I am trying to use the time untill then to work out how everything is going to come together. This is why I am trying to communicate to my production network I/O. Thanks Tom
  4. Point I/O and RSLINX

Well this will be my third attempt at replying to this. I keep hitting the wrong button. All subnets are set to 255.255.255.0 The gateway addresss I entered in the Point I/O is the same as I found in the ENBT module. Originally we had one big network. I know cue big eye roll here. About a year ago it was seperated into the 2 networks. This was done by an out side person. I think this is when the ENBT gateway address was put in. Communication through the ENBT to my 2 DH+ networks is fine and no issues. I can not drill into the ENBT and then out to the remote i/o. I think it may have to do with not having a processer in this chassis. The only things in the controllogix chassis are the ENBT and DH+ comm modules. The reason for my madness is I am attempting to install some remote I/O and tie it to a RSVIEW32 project. According to AB tech note you can access remote Point I/O on etherenet via OPC without the need for a processer. I do not have tech note off hand. I am trying to do this at my computer first to work out any issues before I program into the project. Thanks Tom
  5. I have a PanelView 900 catalog number 2711-K9A2, SER. F, Rev. E, Frn 3.13 available if anyone is interested in it. I will say though the screen is becoming fuzzy in certain areas. I was given a quote of $1961.28 for a repair of this item or a price for a new PanelView 1000 since the 900 is obsolete. The powers that be decided on the new unit and throwing out the replaced unit. I told them to hold on as I would check to see if anyone wants it. It does show signs of wear and as I said there is an issue with the screen being fuzzy in certain areas but it is functional. Maybe someone with more knowledge of this kind of repair could get it for a steal. Let me know if interested and any offers. Not looking to get top dollar just a little something for time and effort. Thanks Tom
  6. Looks like I posted too soon. Also found 5) 10 slot "racks" with modules. Alot of AC ouput, 120v input as well as 16 input and 16 output logic interface. Tom
  7. Cleaning up and I found the following items: 5TI sequencer model # 5TI-1031-1 5TI sequencer model # 5TI-1034-2 5TO I/O expander model # 5TI-5500 a couple of cables. I have no idea if they work or what might be wrong with them. Any one interested let me know. Tom
  8. MCR

I did not want to hijack the earlier thread but I have been meaning to post this queston here for a while now. Does anyone use the MCR instruction anymore? At one time i saw it quite a bit but now rarely run into it so I tend to forget about checking for it when I might me doing some online troubleshooting.
  9. What is controlling the temperature now? I would think that the limit controller is there for safety reasons and probably not a good idea to remove from the process. A little more info on the process would help. Tom
  10. I have an upcoming project where I will be using some Flex I/O. I have DH+ as well as Ethernet available to use. There is the 1794-ASB communication adapter for DH+ and the 1794-AENT for Ethernet IP. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to one or the other? I have not used either product so ease of setup is somewhat important. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. Thanks Tom
  11. Remote I/O choice

My mistake, long day and I did not compute all the particulars. Some of what we have is a 1756-ENBT(I think that is the number) with the DHRIO card. So I haved DH+ going to a handfull of controllers and panelviews. I guess then the question is what is the best option comparing Ethernet remote I/O and DH+ remote I/O options. I must give this some more thought and figure on the best course. Paul, I will have to re-read your post tomorrow after I recharge. You offer very good information Thanks to all for the replies so far. Tom
  12. Tech Connect

Ken, Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try and see. TW, I don't recall which tech note it was at this time. I am kind of in the middle of numerous things so I thought I would check to see how this topic was coming along. I will try to post later today which ones I was trying to open. I know it was a number of them and not just one specific one. Tom
  13. After much discussion, I finally convinced my company to get a Tech Connect contract. As I search the knowledge Base certain answers have links to a Word doc. This is where my problem is. When I try to open the link I get an access denied error from the antivirus software the company is using(AVG). I spoke to the IT department and they will not allow me to open the link due to security issues. They suggest I get it in a PDF which the software will allow. Question is this, can I somehow get the link in the Knowledge Base answer in PDF format? Also if someone has information or suggestions I can take to the ITguys to access this that would be great. I feel I am just getting the old run around from those guys. Any questions or comments are welcome. If this topic is better suited in another place, for example the computer forum, please move there. Thanks Tom
  14. Tech Connect

I tried and unfortunately got the same error as before. I copied and pasted the URL from the knowledgebase document to Google Documents page and hit upload and no go. On to other things I guess.
  15. Tech Connect

I will take a look. Thanks for the link.
  16. Tech Connect

Well I tried that and it did not work. I got some pop up saying it could not be opened. I also tried to print target but that did not work as well. I guess I will have to keep talking to IT and see if there is something that can be done. Tom
  17. Tech Connect

I will give it a try to see if it works. Thanks
  18. I recently installed a 1761- NETENI to a machine with a Micrologix 1200 controller. I would like to be able to use the email feature to send an alarm log as well as some other usefull information. I have the ENI set with the server's IP address as well as an email address. From here I am confused as I have not used the Message instruction or String data file before so I am unsure how to proceed. I have tried various sources for help but I guess I would like someone to walk me through the steps to accomplish this. Any help would be welcome and if any additional info is needed please let me know and I will provide it. Thanks Tom
  19. wire lable printer

Thanks for all the replies, I will check into them. Tom
  20. wire lable printer

Susan, Thanks for the reply. I have used the ID PRO for quite some time so I thought maybe upgrade to something beter, faster, ect. I still do quite a bit of I/O wiring as well as the programming side of a project so something that will handle different types and sizes of lables would be great. I will check out the IDXPERT. Again thanks. Tom
  21. I have a Panelview 1000 that had an encounter with water last night. It appears that the program has been lost or corupt as I reestablished comms by changing to correct node and baud. I have a flashing fault light. I try to download the program over DH via Rslinx. Under download tasks, it performs the first 3. Identify operator terminal, verify application file for download, perparing for file download, after that I go into a holding pattern and after about 1 minute I get "Error No commands received from operator terminal" and it stops at the option "Checking operator terminal for compatibility". Outside of the obvious problem of water, has anyone ran into this type of problem before and what can I do to get this up and running? Any help is greatly appericiated. Thanks Tom
  22. Panelview 1000

Very suprising but yes. It took a direct shot of water plus it dripped into the enclosure and into the back of the Panelview. This happened on 2nd shift so it was left for me in the morning. It seems that all that happened was the program was lost because once I reloaded it everything looks to be running fine. Go figure.
  23. Panelview 1000

Got program reloaded. I abandoned trying to do it via DH. I hooked up laptop to Panelview using the RS-232 port and loaded that way with no problems. Tom
  24. Greetings all, I have a machine that is in basically 2 parts but work together. The base machine is controlled via a Micrologix 1200 catalog # 1762-L24BWA. The other piece uses an output from the PLC to initiate a cycle that performs a number of functions such as positoning, crimping, and sealing. These functions on the secondary machine are controlled by cams mounted on a shaft that actuate air switches that in turn operate the various air cylinders and such. Boss says to me one day: "Gee it sure would be nice if we had a way to adjust the settings on this system easier and with much finer control. Why don't you in your spare time come up with something to make the machine better." So it takes me awhile but I am now in the process of forming a gameplan as to how to do this and what needs to be ordered. My PLC experience compared to the members here would seem limited but this is a project I would like to do to expand my knowledge and show the higher ups what I can do. So with that said I am looking not for a handout but a gentle nudge in the right direction from time to time as I get confused. The 1200 has the High Speed Counter and my first thoughts are to use this to develop a positioning system where the operator can insert an on and off parameter for the various functions. They would do this from the Panelview that is already part of the machine. I also have an Allen Bradley encoder catalog # 845H-SJHZ24CMY2C that is a spare that I can use. My thoughts are to use the encoder on the HSC inputs. Does this seem like the direction to go in or is there something else that might be better/easier? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. If more info is needed let me know. Thanks
  25. Sorry its been one of those weeks already. I am still trying to find time to read up on all this stuff and keep up with production. The machine will not be going in reverse. I suppose since the encoder I have will not work, I will spec out a new one. Besides having to rehome a machine with an incremental encoder, is there anything else advantage or disadvantage wise with an incremental versus absolute encoder? In other words which would be better or put another way when do you use one over the other? Regarding the PLS function. If I understand right and if not please point me in the right direction. The HSC inputs read the encoder pulses and depending on what I have in the HIP and LOP parameters then I can manipulate the various outputs. For example the encoder has 500 ppr and I want to turn on an output I could program say 100 and 200 in the HIP and LOP. Now if this is the case would it be more advantageous to use an encoder with 360 count for ease of changing the setpoints since it would also be degrees of rotation? Or would it be better to use one with a higher resolution and then use some scale function so the operator can still input a change in degree format? As you can see I am trying to get as much information before I commit to any one approach. Thanks for any and all help you are willing to provide. Tom
