  1. Hi, Could someone compare AB compactlogix vs. national instruments compact fieldpoint? I have limited experience with compact logix. I also learn that compact fieldpoint is a programmable automation controller but am not sure how reliable/friendly it is. Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks Alaric. I will go for it.
  3. Hi, I want to use a multi-level switch in a water tank to control a feed pump (on/off). Each reed has a power rating of 15w. How do I interface the switch to an AB plc? Do I need additional electronics? I am thinking about a 3 level switch - the top reed for hi alarm, middle reed for pump control, and bottom for lo alarm. Is this okay or should I go with a continuous level sensor? Thank you very much.
  4. plc firmware vs. code

Thank you all for the valuable info. wbug2000
  5. Hi, Could someone explain how the plc firmware functions and what it does? Is there a relationship/interface between the firmware and the code? Thanks.
  6. Okay. I have a machine that is controlled by a MicroLogix1100 that is connected via Ethernet to a PC for data logging (temperature, pressure, motor speed, etc.) So anytime the machine runs, a CSV file containing run data, is generated on the PC. I have another machine that is controlled by another MicroLogix1100. But this machine does not generate run data. I want to configure this machine to generate run data like the above machine. So my question is what should I do with the PLC code for the data logging to happen? BTW, I forgot to mention, there's no RSLinx on the PC. Thanks.
  7. Thanks for responding. I actually have another machine with a MicroLogix that is connected to a PC via e-net. To my knowledge there's no RSLinx on the PC, and each time the machine runs a CSV file is created. So I want to configure another machine to function like this machine.
  8. Could someone please help me with this task? I have a PLC code running on a MicroLogix 1100. Now I want to configure the program to send a .csv report of certain device status to a PC but I am not sure how to do it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I finally got it working I went in and set an IP address on my computer and so it worked. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful. Regards.
  10. Hi Ken, The RSWho using the Ethernet/IP driver does not see the Micrologix 1100. Earlier I talked to the vendor who built the machine and he said he had the same RSLinx Classic version 2.50.00.20 (CPR 7) and he never had any problems talking to the controller. Thanks.
  11. I've tried two approaches but still been not successful yet: Fist I tried RSLinx Classic --> Configure Drivers --> Ethernet/IP Driver -->Add New and I got the driver running. But when I tried to go online with RSLogix, I got an error message "DiagnosticStatus Failed: 0XFF...FE" I then tried RSLinx Classic --> Configure Drivers --> Ethernet devices -->Station Mapping --> Station 0 = blank, station 1 = 192.168.1.30 (controller's IP), and station 63 = blank. I also got the driver running. But after I clicked on RSWho, I got an error message "192.168.1.30 Unrecognized Device." I'm sure I missed something but don't know what it is. Thanks.
  12. Thank you all for responding. This is what I am not really sure. What I am trying to say is instead of connecting to the Micrologix 1100 via a serial cable (I know how to do this), I want to connect using the ethernet. And I guess it is a single node. How can I do this?
  13. Could someone kindly explain to me how to connect to an Allen Bradley Micrologix 100 using ethernet communication? I have RXLogix 500 version 7.0 and RXLinx Classic version 2.5 Much appreciated. -Wbug2000
