  1. SQO Mask

    Using a sequencer the mask value of "f f f h" I am kind stumped as to what the H is. example: 15 14 13 12 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 --- Bit Level 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 ? ? ? ? F F F H Are I looking at this all wrong?
  2. I have been playing witht the bottle line simulator and the bit shifts. I have the broken bottle part pretty close to right but My problem right now is the student exercises says to program system so if will sort out large bottles and drop them down on the lower belt. where my prob is, that the limit switch that detects large bottles doesn't see but the first large bottle if there are 2 or more large bottles together. Could someone give me a a way i can get around this, and keep in mind I a dummy....lol Thanks.
  3. trying to setup some messaging with a SLC 5/04. im not sure about data files needed. do i need a seperate data file for the message control block ? and then a seperate integer file as the data table address ? Thanks for any help.
  4. SLC 5/04 Messaging

    Thanks Ron, that helped a lot. Please let me make sure I understand something properly, integer file let's say N17, N17:1/0 - N17:1/15 would be a whole word correct ? and with control logix, if I create a tag n17 as a type INT that would also be considered a word? so If I wanted to send 4 words of data from this INT could I just use an array of 4 ?   5. Subnet Mask

    at work we have a disarrayed plant network. Part of plant is 192.1.17.xxx part is 191.1.15.xxx part is 192.168.20.xxx and part is192.168.1.xxx We have all the different networks tied in to 1 router, so I am able to get online with anything in the plant from 1 desk. the issue is though I have to constantly change the IP address of programming computer (Using Free IP Switcher) depending on which system I want to get online with. My Question is could set the Subnet Mask on My programming computer to 0.0.0.0. and be able to connect to any IP range and without causing any problems ? Thanks

I have a SLC 5/04 processor running a machine and want to get it tied in to an Ethernet network,so I can do some messaging with a CLx5000, Was going to just change processor out to a SLC 5/05, BUT my panelviews are using DH+ on the SLC 5/04 and do not want to change all panelviews out, does anyone know If I could use a 1761-NET-ENI to communicate over ethernet with this 5/04 ? or any other solutions. Oh and I have no room for expansion in the SLC rack so adding anymore cards to the SLC 5/04 is not an option. Thanks For Your Help.

    Did Talk to Rockwell and he suggested using a 2nd NIC in the PC, says there are however some downsides to doing that. I did set the default Gateway of my PC to same IP as Router and still nothing. Now the other devices like 192.1.17.15 (the particular device I want to exchange data with) there is no gateway settings applied, Could that be the problem ? sad part is if that is the case I would have to shut device down to make that change. I can go to any Ethernet switch anywhere in the plant and get on with any network I want, but I have to change the IP of my PC to the same range as the device I am trying to connect to.

    Ok Guys Guess Im a bigger dummy than I thought. set aside the machine addressed 191.1.15.xxx for now. I set the Subnet mask on my PC to 255.0.0.0 and Ip to 192.1.17.233, now using RSLinx Classic Gateway I cannot communicate with 192.168.1.213 but If I do a ping from My PC it is successful with 192.168.1.213 so Not sure what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks Everyone for the input, I did try the changing the subnet masking on my laptop and that did not work. I am not very up to speed on networking so I have drawn up a layout of Our networks and the different IP addresses, right now I have an issue where I would love to exchange Data between 192,168.1.213 and 192.1.17.15 just not sure the best way to make that happen. network.bmp

    3 seperate subnets, I want to try it Just dont want to cause some kinda collision that would shut the entire plant down...lol. I mean I know I'll be safe with IP not being a duplicate IP, but oh well what the heck may try it anyway tommorow. I'll be sure and Let You guys know
  11. have a control cabinet that has 2 1791-16BC RIO racks in it. one rack is spared out (no I/O being used) so now I am trying to use some of the inputs on this rack, if I turn on switch it shows up on the rack but the data isnt making it to the main PLC, it is tied in to the RIO (daisy chained with rack that is working) Com light on this rack is solid green. so I am confused as to why I cant get data from this rack.

  13. Ethernet Question

    Thanks Ken That's Great Info. I did have one of the PF 700 drives that seemed to be the worst, in fact it got to the point where it would not reconnect even after a Cold Boot (power shut down and restart) so I changed that 20-comm-e out and I dont think it has lost cooms yet, I will check on the RX and Tx error counters though. Thanks Guys
  14. Ethernet Question

    Need help please. I have to machines on different networks one being 192.168.20.xxx and the other being 191.1.15.xxx have them both hooked into a fiberoptic unmanaged switch and can get online with either network thru the fiber optic. The problem I may be having and I am not sure if this problem started after this was set up, is that some of My powerflex drives are getting DPI adapter faults. could this configuration with the 2 networks being tied together be causing network collisions ?

    Thanks Bob, thats interesting, I had contacted AB once about this issue or actually how I might be able to reset the drive without having to enter the electrical cabinet, so he first told me that Managed switches should have been used instead of unmanaged. anyway I may try disconnecting a couple of the HIMS and see if that makes a difference
  17. have a 1794-IT8 (flex I/O rack) thermocouple card. had to rob the terminal base (1794-tb3t) to use elsewhere since this equipmnet was shut down, now I just replaced the terminal base wired everything back up and thermocouples are not working. there is only 2 channels being used one is showing the fault high of 2500 deg. the other is close to being right but fluctuates very badly. I have checked the wiring for the tb3t with allen bradley data sheets and everything looks ok. I have the CJC wired as specified to 35, 36, and 38 with the tail on terminal 1 and the thermocouple is wired on term 0 (yellow t wire +) and term 1 (red t wire -) the other CJC is on 47, 48, 49 and tail is on term 12. Any Ideas what might be going on ?

    The adapter and card are on the same power supply, I have cycled power but have not tried placing the controller in program then run. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, appreciate it.

    yes it worked before, not sure about thermocouples, but they worked when we shut down. I didnt replace the card, only the terminal module (TB3T) the adapter is Enet (AENT).
  20. overload relays

    3 phase 480v across the line starter with 24v coil. person that built this panel took the 24 - straight to the coil instead of thru the overload relay, and instead used the overload relay contacts to send an input to the plc if an overload occurs. I do not like this method but not sure if it is an acceptable approach. far as I am concerned it is a no-no but hate to raise a stink for nothing. let me hear your opinions. Thanks
  21. We have 2 Gantry systems that are using MO2AE cards with PF700 Drives and SEW Gear motors. using "MAG" (motion axis gear) command one motor is the master and the other is the slave. It actually works very well and travels constantly 12 hr/day 7 days/week

  23. have 2 machines each controlled by contrologix with ethernet/ip also using Ntron enet switches 508tx each machine is on seperate networks 191.1.17.??? on one and 192.168.124.??? on the other. can these 2 networks be tied together using a switch ? and without having to change IP addresses of either machine? for the purpose of being able to connect to either system from a single location Thanks Guys

I have a Slc 5/04 with dh+ connected to a panelview 550 and want to put a 1791-8ac remote rack in the cabinet with the PV550. if I am correct I have to use a 1747-sn scanner card to connect to the 1791-8ac. what I wanted to do is use the Blue Hose (dh+) i have going to the PV550 and daisy chain the PV550 and 1791-ac from the 1747-sn. I tried in on the bench and could never get communication between the 1747-sn and the 1791-8ac. could someone please tell me how to configure the comms for this if its possible as I described.
